[00:00:15] [SPEAKER_02]: Welcome to Shonen Flop Chibi, a First Impressions mini-episode where we talk about the first chapter of the series we'll be covering in-depth next week with our guest, Tessa Strong.

[00:00:25] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh yeah, strongest Tessa in the world.

[00:00:27] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm Jordan and with me today as usual is my lovely co-host David. Say hi, David.

[00:00:32] [SPEAKER_02]: Hi, David.

[00:00:33] [SPEAKER_02]: What series are we covering this week, David?

[00:00:35] [SPEAKER_01]: We're covering a super series, Super Dog Rilienthal, which definitely sounds like a headache medication.

[00:00:42] [SPEAKER_02]: It sounds like that's like supposed to be like an English name, but it's not.

[00:00:47] [SPEAKER_02]: I would, maybe it's Lowenthal?

[00:00:50] [SPEAKER_02]: Ririenthal?

[00:00:51] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, hopefully Tucker will have some insight.

[00:00:53] [SPEAKER_02]: I have no idea.

[00:00:54] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's not a name I have ever heard.

[00:00:58] [SPEAKER_02]: I've been pronouncing it like Rillienthal, but it might be Rillienthal.

[00:01:02] [SPEAKER_02]: It's weird.

[00:01:02] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.

[00:01:03] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm just really tired of talking about that series name.

[00:01:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Not really.

[00:01:07] [SPEAKER_01]: I just thought that was a fun segue.

[00:01:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Ha ha ha.

[00:01:09] [SPEAKER_02]: Manga Details.

[00:01:10] [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, go for it.

[00:01:11] [SPEAKER_02]: Created by Ashihara Daisuke.

[00:01:14] [SPEAKER_02]: It ran from September 14th, 2009 to May 10th, 2010.

[00:01:20] [SPEAKER_02]: 34 chapters, four volumes.

[00:01:22] [SPEAKER_02]: Damn, this definitely wasn't U19, so.

[00:01:25] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, MaxiBee says these chapters go fast.

[00:01:27] [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, well that's good.

[00:01:29] [SPEAKER_02]: This wasn't too slow at least.

[00:01:31] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm sorry I can't be joining you, but I will still read it.

[00:01:33] [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, yeah, so we can talk about it later.

[00:01:36] [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, for our chibi scoring and our ranking.

[00:01:38] [SPEAKER_02]: It's gonna be kind of hard to do the ranking if you haven't read it.

[00:01:42] [SPEAKER_02]: I'll try.

[00:01:43] [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, let's get into the fucking plot summary for the first chapter.

[00:01:46] [SPEAKER_02]: So these two kids, Tetsuko and her brother Ani, are waiting for their parents at the airport

[00:01:51] [SPEAKER_02]: when they get a box with a message saying that they're not coming home.

[00:01:56] [SPEAKER_02]: But, hey kids, you're getting a new little brother.

[00:01:58] [SPEAKER_02]: They open the box and a weird looking dog hops out.

[00:02:01] [SPEAKER_02]: His name is Rillienthal.

[00:02:02] [SPEAKER_02]: He can talk.

[00:02:03] [SPEAKER_02]: He's their new little brother and he's being chased by the men in black.

[00:02:06] [SPEAKER_02]: So they gotta protect him.

[00:02:08] [SPEAKER_02]: The kids get on a bus where they try to convince people that Rillienthal is just a stuffed animal,

[00:02:14] [SPEAKER_02]: just like Digimon.

[00:02:15] [SPEAKER_02]: A little girl really likes him.

[00:02:18] [SPEAKER_02]: So she starts reading a picture book to him when the men in black burst into the bus with guns.

[00:02:24] [SPEAKER_02]: They say they're looking for RD1.

[00:02:26] [SPEAKER_02]: Now, who could that be?

[00:02:27] [SPEAKER_02]: Well, they don't really know, David.

[00:02:29] [SPEAKER_02]: They weren't told what the fuck RD1 actually is,

[00:02:32] [SPEAKER_02]: which kind of makes everything like way harder than it has to be.

[00:02:36] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't understand why they thought this would be a good idea, Popcorn David.

[00:02:39] [SPEAKER_01]: The bus suddenly seems to be underwater.

[00:02:42] [SPEAKER_01]: The girl's picture book is about exploring the ocean with a sea monster supposedly at the bottom.

[00:02:46] [SPEAKER_01]: One of the men in black grabs the book, thinking that it must be RD1 as the sea monster attacks.

[00:02:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Tetsuko thinks that it might be because the little girl is scared.

[00:02:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Rillienthal calms her down and the sea monster disappears.

[00:02:57] [SPEAKER_01]: The men in black determine the girl is actually RD1, and so they plan to kidnap her.

[00:03:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Tetsuko and Ani join into the action, kicking their asses and dismantling their guns respectively.

[00:03:06] [SPEAKER_01]: One of them falls out the door into an abyss, but Rillienthal grabs him just in time.

[00:03:10] [SPEAKER_01]: The bus then surfaces outside of a house as Tetsuko wonders if Rillienthal saved him to calm down the little girl,

[00:03:16] [SPEAKER_01]: or if he did that just because.

[00:03:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, that house they ended up at is conveniently their house.

[00:03:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Nice.

[00:03:21] [SPEAKER_01]: And I did fist bump.

[00:03:22] [SPEAKER_02]: Also, I forgot to write it in there, but yeah, it is stated Rillienthal is obviously RD1,

[00:03:29] [SPEAKER_02]: and the underwater shit is like part of his powers.

[00:03:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I kind of thought that would have been cool if it was like an SPF thing,

[00:03:36] [SPEAKER_01]: where like there are different artifacts and legitimately it wasn't him and he's just a magic dog

[00:03:40] [SPEAKER_01]: and no one really acknowledges it.

[00:03:41] [SPEAKER_01]: And Jordan's like, fuck, that would have been a way funnier idea.

[00:03:44] [SPEAKER_02]: It would have been.

[00:03:44] [SPEAKER_02]: But also like this does a really bad job of explaining how his powers work,

[00:03:50] [SPEAKER_02]: what his powers are.

[00:03:52] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't really have a good grasp over what the fuck is happening.

[00:03:55] [SPEAKER_02]: Really?

[00:03:56] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:03:57] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you didn't have to go into more deals.

[00:03:59] [SPEAKER_01]: This chapter did a really bad job, period.

[00:04:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:04:02] [SPEAKER_01]: So here's the thing.

[00:04:03] [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's supposed to be a gag manga, but it's not funny.

[00:04:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:04:06] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I just don't get what the tone of this series is.

[00:04:10] [SPEAKER_02]: I think it's supposed to be like a goofy action manga,

[00:04:13] [SPEAKER_02]: almost like sort of the tone that Sakamoto Days is going for.

[00:04:16] [SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, Sakamoto Days is better than this in literally every way.

[00:04:19] [SPEAKER_02]: But I mean, like what I mean is where it's like there's action and it's overall very comedic

[00:04:25] [SPEAKER_02]: and kind of goofy.

[00:04:26] [SPEAKER_02]: But like it's not a pure gag manga is what I'm getting from this.

[00:04:31] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:04:31] [SPEAKER_02]: It's not like Dr. Slump.

[00:04:32] [SPEAKER_02]: No, it's not like Dr. Slump.

[00:04:33] [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, I mean, it's just kind of there.

[00:04:37] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:04:37] [SPEAKER_02]: I think Relienthal's design is very strange and kind of cute, but weird.

[00:04:42] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I agree.

[00:04:43] [SPEAKER_02]: It is a nice design.

[00:04:44] [SPEAKER_02]: It is very silly.

[00:04:45] [SPEAKER_02]: I did like the bus driver who was like, ha ha, you guys lost.

[00:04:49] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:04:50] [SPEAKER_02]: The bad guys.

[00:04:50] [SPEAKER_02]: That was funny.

[00:04:51] [SPEAKER_02]: I like that.

[00:04:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:04:52] [SPEAKER_01]: I just this chapter didn't really explain much and just wasted.

[00:04:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Like he didn't need to dedicate like 40 pages to this fucking bus scene.

[00:04:58] [SPEAKER_02]: It did kind of feel like a bit of a waste of time.

[00:05:01] [SPEAKER_02]: I did like at the beginning, they kind of foreshadow.

[00:05:04] [SPEAKER_02]: It's like, yeah, you speak chase, but you guys will be fine if you're here.

[00:05:08] [SPEAKER_02]: And it was like, well, that don't make sense.

[00:05:10] [SPEAKER_02]: And then it's revealed, oh, no, these two kids are actually like super badasses.

[00:05:15] [SPEAKER_01]: That was.

[00:05:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:05:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Also, I noticed when I was looking at art review, the little boy always has his eyes closed.

[00:05:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Because I was like, what's his eye color?

[00:05:22] [SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, oh, his eyes are always shut.

[00:05:24] [SPEAKER_02]: What's his eye color?

[00:05:25] [SPEAKER_02]: No.

[00:05:26] [SPEAKER_02]: Death.

[00:05:26] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:05:27] [SPEAKER_02]: He's like Cyclops.

[00:05:28] [SPEAKER_02]: If he opened them, everybody would die.

[00:05:29] [SPEAKER_01]: I kind of feel like this is in the same cinematic universe as Rookie Policewoman, Kuroko.

[00:05:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Like, I could see them doing a crossover.

[00:05:36] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:05:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Where it kind of has that like, this is supposed to kind of be a gag manga, but not like it's

[00:05:40] [SPEAKER_01]: all gag manga kind of tone.

[00:05:42] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I can see that.

[00:05:43] [SPEAKER_02]: It seems that there is less sexual harassment in this one.

[00:05:47] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah.

[00:05:47] [SPEAKER_02]: I would hope.

[00:05:48] [SPEAKER_02]: I really hope that that doesn't change.

[00:05:50] [SPEAKER_02]: I would be horrified if it did.

[00:05:52] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm trying to think what else.

[00:05:53] [SPEAKER_01]: The art is quite polished.

[00:05:55] [SPEAKER_01]: I haven't read his other work.

[00:05:57] [SPEAKER_01]: This author is famous for.

[00:05:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Fuck, what is it?

[00:05:59] [SPEAKER_01]: What is it?

[00:06:00] [SPEAKER_01]: What is it?

[00:06:01] [SPEAKER_01]: What is something?

[00:06:02] [SPEAKER_01]: It's something world, right?

[00:06:04] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I have no idea what this guy's done.

[00:06:05] [SPEAKER_01]: The art's fine.

[00:06:06] [SPEAKER_01]: World trigger.

[00:06:07] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, world trigger.

[00:06:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay.

[00:06:09] [SPEAKER_01]: This is by the guy who does world trigger, which as far as I'm aware, has pretty solid

[00:06:11] [SPEAKER_01]: art.

[00:06:12] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the art's not blowing me away, but it definitely gets the job done.

[00:06:14] [SPEAKER_02]: The art is very simplified in this.

[00:06:18] [SPEAKER_02]: Like, I think that was a choice.

[00:06:19] [SPEAKER_02]: And like when they go underwater and the sea monster shows up, it gets more detailed.

[00:06:23] [SPEAKER_02]: But like the characters themselves have very heavy, dark lines, like very heavy black

[00:06:29] [SPEAKER_02]: outlines.

[00:06:30] [SPEAKER_02]: They are very simplified.

[00:06:31] [SPEAKER_02]: We stand fake black outlines on this podcast.

[00:06:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Got to be one of my favorite genders.

[00:06:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Yes.

[00:06:37] [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, that's kind of it.

[00:06:39] [SPEAKER_01]: I also just some other little things.

[00:06:41] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know why this kind of felt like a Tim Burton world where like the kids seem really

[00:06:44] [SPEAKER_01]: serious and the dog.

[00:06:45] [SPEAKER_01]: So it feels like you could have seen those like a parody of Tim Burton.

[00:06:47] [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm also imagining what I feel.

[00:06:49] [SPEAKER_01]: What kind of voice do you think the dog would have had in the anime?

[00:06:51] [SPEAKER_02]: Hey, guys, I'm the super dog.

[00:06:54] [SPEAKER_02]: That's what I initially went with.

[00:06:56] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if that would be the case, though.

[00:06:57] [SPEAKER_02]: I feel like in the anime, he would have like an annoying like little kid voice almost like

[00:07:03] [SPEAKER_02]: like Chopper on One Piece.

[00:07:05] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:07:06] [SPEAKER_02]: Like where it's where it's just like, oh, you could have done something not extremely

[00:07:11] [SPEAKER_02]: annoying, but you chose not to.

[00:07:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:07:14] [SPEAKER_01]: I this also reminds me how I think there was an audio drama for Mago Chan where he does

[00:07:18] [SPEAKER_01]: have a very deep voice.

[00:07:19] [SPEAKER_01]: I could have seen like David.

[00:07:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Good.

[00:07:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Keith David voicing him.

[00:07:23] [SPEAKER_01]: David almost called him David Keith again.

[00:07:24] [SPEAKER_01]: No, it's almost a David hater, which also that would have been hilarious.

[00:07:28] [SPEAKER_02]: And Mago was David hater.

[00:07:30] [SPEAKER_02]: David haters.

[00:07:31] [SPEAKER_02]: Mago Chan would be moi.

[00:07:33] [SPEAKER_02]: Fantastic.

[00:07:35] [SPEAKER_01]: I am the god of destruction.

[00:07:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Metal gear.

[00:07:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Metal gear.

[00:07:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I missed that manga.

[00:07:40] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it was good.

[00:07:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:07:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Along with thick black outlines, my other favorite gender is, of course, people being surrounded

[00:07:46] [SPEAKER_01]: by weird shit and being fine with it.

[00:07:48] [SPEAKER_01]: So like witch watch chef's kiss when they're like, oh, you're a witch.

[00:07:51] [SPEAKER_01]: That's cool.

[00:07:51] [SPEAKER_01]: I do love that, except they seemed way too accepting where they're like, oh, we're underwater.

[00:07:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Like no one panicked in the bus.

[00:07:58] [SPEAKER_02]: I believe that is called magical realism.

[00:08:01] [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, no, people weren't really panicking in the bus aside from the bad guys.

[00:08:06] [SPEAKER_02]: Everyone else was just kind of like, whoa, this is happening.

[00:08:09] [SPEAKER_02]: Like, I don't know.

[00:08:10] [SPEAKER_02]: They were surprised.

[00:08:11] [SPEAKER_02]: They were definitely NPCs.

[00:08:13] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if panicking.

[00:08:14] [SPEAKER_02]: I agree.

[00:08:15] [SPEAKER_02]: They weren't really acting as as surprised as maybe they should have.

[00:08:19] [SPEAKER_02]: The little girl did not seem very surprised.

[00:08:21] [SPEAKER_02]: She just kept on reading the book.

[00:08:24] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:08:24] [SPEAKER_01]: I really thought that that was going to be the double twist is that her book was like

[00:08:27] [SPEAKER_01]: magical.

[00:08:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:08:28] [SPEAKER_01]: That would actually have been cool if this was like an SPF series.

[00:08:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Damn.

[00:08:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Now I'm really mad that there's that it's not.

[00:08:33] [SPEAKER_01]: By SPF, what do you mean?

[00:08:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Wow.

[00:08:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Did I say SPF?

[00:08:36] [SPEAKER_01]: You mean SCP?

[00:08:37] [SPEAKER_01]: SCP.

[00:08:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:08:38] [SPEAKER_01]: I was thinking of some.

[00:08:38] [SPEAKER_01]: I bought some screen today.

[00:08:40] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:08:40] [SPEAKER_02]: This you said that before.

[00:08:43] [SPEAKER_02]: I was like, I don't know what that acronym is.

[00:08:45] [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah.

[00:08:46] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:08:46] [SPEAKER_02]: Sorry.

[00:08:46] [SPEAKER_01]: SCP.

[00:08:48] [SPEAKER_02]: SCP.

[00:08:48] [SPEAKER_02]: Not SPF.

[00:08:49] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:08:50] [SPEAKER_01]: It really sounds like a hilarious parody of SCP.

[00:08:53] [SPEAKER_02]: That's actually.

[00:08:54] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:08:54] [SPEAKER_01]: The SPF.

[00:08:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Their outfits are giant bottles of sunscreen.

[00:08:59] [SPEAKER_01]: That's the Mad Magazine parody of SCP.

[00:09:02] [SPEAKER_01]: I love it.

[00:09:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I miss Mad Magazine.

[00:09:04] [SPEAKER_01]: All right.

[00:09:04] [SPEAKER_01]: We're getting way too off topic.

[00:09:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Jordan, would you read in our tent afters of this?

[00:09:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Nah.

[00:09:09] [SPEAKER_01]: I wrote no with 10 zeros, 10 O's.

[00:09:11] [SPEAKER_01]: It's fuck.

[00:09:12] [SPEAKER_01]: What a day it's been.

[00:09:12] [SPEAKER_01]: Also, Dylan, who is tagging in on Thursday because I can't make it because work, unfortunately

[00:09:17] [SPEAKER_01]: called me in.

[00:09:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Dylan, you can put in your audio if you would have read in our 10 chapters of this.

[00:09:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's going to be enough for me, dog.

[00:09:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Jordan, what do you think will happen next?

[00:09:25] [SPEAKER_01]: I see we have one guest that is exactly the same, which is also a guest Dylan made.

[00:09:29] [SPEAKER_02]: At least for a little while, there will be a Monster of the Week format where Rillianthal's

[00:09:33] [SPEAKER_02]: powers end up being used by different people.

[00:09:36] [SPEAKER_02]: You know, like, oh, he's got to help the neighbor out with something.

[00:09:40] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, man.

[00:09:40] [SPEAKER_02]: There's another guy.

[00:09:41] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, boy.

[00:09:43] [SPEAKER_02]: Rillianthal's powers is like doing stuff with him.

[00:09:46] [SPEAKER_02]: My next guess is we never actually meet their parents.

[00:09:49] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's my guest too.

[00:09:50] [SPEAKER_02]: Dylan also guessed that.

[00:09:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, damn it.

[00:09:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Fuck.

[00:09:53] [SPEAKER_01]: We all guessed.

[00:09:53] [SPEAKER_01]: I wasn't joking.

[00:09:55] [SPEAKER_01]: All three of us had that guess.

[00:09:56] [SPEAKER_02]: Fuck.

[00:09:57] [SPEAKER_02]: And the last one is Rillianthal's powers are from alien technology.

[00:10:01] [SPEAKER_01]: I like it.

[00:10:02] [SPEAKER_01]: This is a backdoor pilot into Aliens Arena 64 Turbo Edition.

[00:10:05] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that was a fun word.

[00:10:07] [SPEAKER_01]: All right.

[00:10:07] [SPEAKER_01]: My guesses are there will be a super cat nemesis.

[00:10:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Mm hmm.

[00:10:10] [SPEAKER_01]: We will never see their parents.

[00:10:12] [SPEAKER_01]: Original plot.

[00:10:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Free thinker.

[00:10:14] [SPEAKER_01]: So-called free thinker.

[00:10:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:10:16] [SPEAKER_01]: They have a bad guy they defeat that becomes their friend and probably lives with them because

[00:10:19] [SPEAKER_01]: they have nowhere to go.

[00:10:20] [SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of like how they collected people in Tokyo Demon Bride.

[00:10:24] [SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of how they collect people in a lot of manga we read on this show.

[00:10:28] [SPEAKER_01]: I feel like we don't talk about the goblin mode cat lady from that series.

[00:10:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Do you remember her?

[00:10:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, she just was like she like did not have her shit together.

[00:10:35] [SPEAKER_01]: It was really funny.

[00:10:36] [SPEAKER_01]: That cat lady.

[00:10:37] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't remember.

[00:10:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Do you just remember the frog who was like this plot is stupid.

[00:10:40] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm staying out of this to live with them.

[00:10:42] [SPEAKER_01]: And she was like you guys are fucking idiots.

[00:10:44] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:10:44] [SPEAKER_01]: She was the only sensible character in that series.

[00:10:47] [SPEAKER_02]: I kind of only remember the frog.

[00:10:48] [SPEAKER_02]: I also remember the poop battle or whatever.

[00:10:51] [SPEAKER_02]: That was weird.

[00:10:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.

[00:10:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Do you not?

[00:10:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Do you have the vigor to shit yourself right now?

[00:10:58] [SPEAKER_02]: That was good.

[00:10:59] [SPEAKER_02]: That was good.

[00:10:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, actually.

[00:11:00] [SPEAKER_01]: We did rerun that episode.

[00:11:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:11:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Jordan, what's your power word, my man?

[00:11:04] [SPEAKER_02]: Bones because dogs like bones.

[00:11:06] [SPEAKER_02]: And this is like the bones of a manga.

[00:11:10] [SPEAKER_02]: There ain't any meat on this bone.

[00:11:11] [SPEAKER_02]: It's just kind of bland.

[00:11:13] [SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, how about you?

[00:11:16] [SPEAKER_01]: I put cringe.

[00:11:17] [SPEAKER_01]: This is just kind of cringe, bruh.

[00:11:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Hey.

[00:11:19] [SPEAKER_01]: And then Dylan said unknown because the source of the dog powers are a mystery.

[00:11:23] [SPEAKER_01]: And I have no idea what the hell anyone is saying.

[00:11:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Because, yeah, this is definitely like a machine translation or something.

[00:11:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Because no actual human native English speaker would ever write the dialogue like this.

[00:11:32] [SPEAKER_01]: There are some pretty bad writers out there.

[00:11:34] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.

[00:11:34] [SPEAKER_01]: I've read some really bad translations, okay?

[00:11:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Remember the Snickers translation of philosophy school?

[00:11:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Remember the Svitch?

[00:11:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:11:42] [SPEAKER_02]: From Bone Collection?

[00:11:43] [SPEAKER_01]: There's always the Dewang.

[00:11:44] [SPEAKER_01]: The Dewang.

[00:11:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that's just a classic.

[00:11:47] [SPEAKER_01]: Most iconic bad manga translation of all time.

[00:11:50] [SPEAKER_02]: Probably, yeah.

[00:11:51] [SPEAKER_02]: There's also Big Green, of course.

[00:11:53] [SPEAKER_02]: That's another thing.

[00:11:54] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah.

[00:11:55] [SPEAKER_01]: I love how they added that into the Team Four Star.

[00:11:59] [SPEAKER_01]: But as much as I'd love to keep talking about this series, let's get into the Q&A.

[00:12:03] [SPEAKER_01]: So as a reminder, you can submit your questions on the Shonen Flop Discord prior to give it to those who are new to ask, haven't had a question asked in a while, or are wonderful patrons.

[00:12:11] [SPEAKER_01]: Starting with one of our Ride or Die fans.

[00:12:13] [SPEAKER_01]: David asks, if you could get an SBS question answered by Odo, what would you ask?

[00:12:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Asterisk has to be like something he would actually answer.

[00:12:20] [SPEAKER_01]: You can't be like, hey, what's the One Piece?

[00:12:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Damn it.

[00:12:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Hey, what's your credit card number?

[00:12:24] [SPEAKER_01]: So what is a question realistically Odo would answer if you asked him?

[00:12:28] [SPEAKER_01]: And I have to say, I just want to say my question that I really wanted to do, he did eventually answer where I wanted to ask him, what devil fruit would you give the straw hats that didn't have them?

[00:12:35] [SPEAKER_01]: And I was kind of sad he actually answered it because then I couldn't feel really clever because he even was like, fuck, that's a really interesting question when he answered it.

[00:12:41] [SPEAKER_01]: So what would you do?

[00:12:42] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.

[00:12:43] [SPEAKER_01]: So mine is I honestly would just ask him straight up which straw hat pirates are willing to kill and have killed because there's a lot of ambiguity and there's debate.

[00:12:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Like obviously Zoro has killed people on screen.

[00:12:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Robin, it's like impossible for Robin not to have killed people.

[00:12:55] [SPEAKER_01]: But there's a huge debate about people like Luffy, Jinbei and Brooke and Frankie.

[00:13:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Have they killed people?

[00:13:00] [SPEAKER_01]: And I honestly be interested to just actually get a definitive answer of what straw hats would like openly would kill people, would kill as a last resort and would rather die than kill someone.

[00:13:09] [SPEAKER_02]: I guess one of mine, one question I would ask is like, how long did you actually think this was going to go for basically?

[00:13:16] [SPEAKER_02]: Like what arc did like you think was going to be like, I guess the last one?

[00:13:21] [SPEAKER_02]: Like how long did you, I guess my, the actual question is how long did you initially plan for this series to go?

[00:13:26] [SPEAKER_02]: You know, because there's no way he thought I was going to go for 20 years.

[00:13:30] [SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's 24 years this year.

[00:13:32] [SPEAKER_02]: Damn.

[00:13:32] [SPEAKER_02]: Sorry.

[00:13:33] [SPEAKER_01]: 20 plus years.

[00:13:35] [SPEAKER_01]: All right.

[00:13:36] [SPEAKER_01]: And just a reminder, by the way, when I have a question answered, it does not take one of our slots.

[00:13:39] [SPEAKER_01]: So let's get to the next actual question.

[00:13:41] [SPEAKER_01]: That was you?

[00:13:42] [SPEAKER_01]: No, it was my cousin who has the same name as me.

[00:13:45] [SPEAKER_02]: Whoa.

[00:13:46] [SPEAKER_02]: David acting like David is a super uncommon name or something, you know, like.

[00:13:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Next up from Sandman.

[00:13:52] [SPEAKER_01]: What is the origin of the word glizzy?

[00:13:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Jordan, I know you know a bit more about this than me.

[00:13:56] [SPEAKER_01]: What would you say?

[00:13:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Why would I know more about this than you?

[00:13:59] [SPEAKER_01]: I guess it's going to be a mystery.

[00:14:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Keep on glizzing, glizzers.

[00:14:01] [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, are you asking me why I get angry when David says it?

[00:14:05] [SPEAKER_02]: Sure.

[00:14:05] [SPEAKER_02]: If you wish to interpret the question that way.

[00:14:07] [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I don't know.

[00:14:08] [SPEAKER_02]: Like, you can look it up on the Internet.

[00:14:11] [SPEAKER_02]: I have no idea.

[00:14:12] [SPEAKER_02]: I get annoyed because David is not Gen Alpha.

[00:14:16] [SPEAKER_02]: And when he says it, it's like annoying.

[00:14:18] [SPEAKER_01]: That's why.

[00:14:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Understandable.

[00:14:20] [SPEAKER_01]: By the way, the actual origin is it comes from D.C.

[00:14:22] [SPEAKER_01]: There's no confirm, but people think it's because of how hot dogs start to glisten as

[00:14:26] [SPEAKER_01]: you grill them.

[00:14:26] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, but it is a D.C. slang.

[00:14:28] [SPEAKER_01]: So I said it a lot while I was in D.C.

[00:14:29] [SPEAKER_01]: OK.

[00:14:30] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, Jordan was just in D.C.

[00:14:31] [SPEAKER_01]: So you missed your chance to have a glizzy.

[00:14:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I guess.

[00:14:33] [SPEAKER_01]: I guess so.

[00:14:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Next up from Spubby.

[00:14:35] [SPEAKER_01]: I know we have the floppies, but I'm curious.

[00:14:37] [SPEAKER_01]: What was your favorite manga of the year that wasn't part of the podcast, including Chainsaw

[00:14:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Minute, too?

[00:14:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Because otherwise I know we put Chainsaw Minute.

[00:14:43] [SPEAKER_01]: So Jordan, what was the best manga you've read in 2023?

[00:14:46] [SPEAKER_01]: And why was it Don to Don?

[00:14:47] [SPEAKER_01]: OK, there you go.

[00:14:48] [SPEAKER_01]: That's the correct answer.

[00:14:49] [SPEAKER_01]: God, I can't I can't believe.

[00:14:51] [SPEAKER_01]: So good.

[00:14:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Actually, in me out of context, I was talking about or Rem was like, oh, what if they have

[00:14:56] [SPEAKER_01]: like a magical testicle?

[00:14:58] [SPEAKER_01]: And that's where they get the powers from.

[00:14:59] [SPEAKER_01]: And everyone's get powers from a test magical.

[00:15:01] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't like message him like, dude, do you like not know that's like actually the plot

[00:15:04] [SPEAKER_01]: to Don to Don is like a magical testicle.

[00:15:08] [SPEAKER_01]: So I want to know what he says.

[00:15:10] [SPEAKER_01]: But hopefully he is now aware that there is literally a manga.

[00:15:13] [SPEAKER_01]: And I really hope they cover it so he can be like, oh, this is this was the magical

[00:15:17] [SPEAKER_01]: testicle manga.

[00:15:17] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm just thinking of like the Beatles magical mystery tour.

[00:15:21] [SPEAKER_02]: Magical testicle tour.

[00:15:22] [SPEAKER_02]: The magical testicle tour.

[00:15:24] [SPEAKER_02]: I love it.

[00:15:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Next up from Dude Rocks.

[00:15:26] [SPEAKER_01]: What kind of dragon are you?

[00:15:27] [SPEAKER_01]: So my answer is actually people have compared me to a dragon because unlike hoarding gold

[00:15:31] [SPEAKER_01]: or riches, I hoard friendships.

[00:15:33] [SPEAKER_01]: So apparently I'm a friendship dragon.

[00:15:35] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, God.

[00:15:36] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think we had a question of if you were a dragon, what would you hoard?

[00:15:39] [SPEAKER_02]: And that was what you said.

[00:15:40] [SPEAKER_02]: Yep.

[00:15:41] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.

[00:15:41] [SPEAKER_01]: I guess I would be like you'd be a metal dragon, I assume.

[00:15:45] [SPEAKER_01]: But what kind of metal?

[00:15:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'd be I'd be a robot dragon.

[00:15:48] [SPEAKER_01]: I like it.

[00:15:49] [SPEAKER_01]: That'd be cool.

[00:15:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Next up from Daydreaming Deer.

[00:15:52] [SPEAKER_01]: I think this is our first question.

[00:15:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Who would win in a fight?

[00:15:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Dub Goku or Sub Goku?

[00:15:56] [SPEAKER_02]: I am really bad in this.

[00:15:59] [SPEAKER_02]: These questions are really bad for me because I actually have only ever really watched Dub

[00:16:03] [SPEAKER_02]: Dragon Ball Z.

[00:16:04] [SPEAKER_02]: So I've heard that Sub Dragon Ball Z, he's like kind of an asshole.

[00:16:09] [SPEAKER_01]: He's voiced by like a seven year old woman.

[00:16:10] [SPEAKER_02]: Right.

[00:16:11] [SPEAKER_02]: Yes.

[00:16:11] [SPEAKER_01]: Did you know, fun fact, trivia fact in Japan, the only relative of Goku voiced by

[00:16:15] [SPEAKER_01]: man is Raditz.

[00:16:17] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, God.

[00:16:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:16:18] [SPEAKER_02]: No, I think that isn't that because like in Japan, like there's a really good like voice

[00:16:23] [SPEAKER_02]: actor union and a lot of respect for voice actors.

[00:16:26] [SPEAKER_02]: So it's like, no, this is you voice Goku.

[00:16:29] [SPEAKER_02]: That's your job.

[00:16:30] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:16:30] [SPEAKER_02]: You're not going to lose your job over this shit.

[00:16:32] [SPEAKER_01]: I yeah, I know like in America, it's been trying to emulate.

[00:16:35] [SPEAKER_01]: So you have weird shit like 30 year old Naruto still having his childhood voice actor

[00:16:38] [SPEAKER_01]: because that's what it just sounds super fucking weird.

[00:16:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:16:41] [SPEAKER_01]: There is no shame in recasting a character after they hit puberty in a different anime.

[00:16:46] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:16:47] [SPEAKER_02]: Right.

[00:16:47] [SPEAKER_02]: Like not even like you're done with Naruto.

[00:16:50] [SPEAKER_02]: You're on board.

[00:16:50] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's true.

[00:16:51] [SPEAKER_01]: But I still got like a 65 year old woman.

[00:16:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Hey, I'm Naruto.

[00:16:55] [SPEAKER_01]: What's going on, guys?

[00:16:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, God.

[00:16:57] [SPEAKER_01]: I will say, though, Dom Goku would definitely beat Sub Goku.

[00:17:00] [SPEAKER_01]: But I think Dub Goku, who is a.k.a.

[00:17:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Superman Goku.

[00:17:04] [SPEAKER_01]: You think he'd win?

[00:17:04] [SPEAKER_01]: I think Dub Goku would win.

[00:17:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Sean Schemmel Goku.

[00:17:07] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:17:08] [SPEAKER_01]: All right.

[00:17:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Next, our final question from ZZ Digital.

[00:17:11] [SPEAKER_01]: What Magic of Gathering color would Ravuli play?

[00:17:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Jordan, what do you think?

[00:17:14] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to go with red.

[00:17:18] [SPEAKER_01]: That's what I was going to say, because you know why I say red?

[00:17:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Because she's red.

[00:17:22] [SPEAKER_01]: No, my dog is not red.

[00:17:23] [SPEAKER_01]: But goblins are red.

[00:17:25] [SPEAKER_01]: So she could play with all her goblins.

[00:17:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, exactly.

[00:17:28] [SPEAKER_02]: Plus, it's like it's like beasts, right?

[00:17:31] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't I barely know the colors.

[00:17:33] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm sorry.

[00:17:34] [SPEAKER_01]: It's OK.

[00:17:34] [SPEAKER_01]: And did you play arena before our wizard soul episode?

[00:17:37] [SPEAKER_01]: I did.

[00:17:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Fuck.

[00:17:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, my guess was you were to fuck with me.

[00:17:42] [SPEAKER_01]: So too bad.

[00:17:43] [SPEAKER_01]: I outsmarted your outsmarting.

[00:17:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I guess.

[00:17:47] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I thought you're going to be like, oh, just kidding.

[00:17:49] [SPEAKER_01]: I didn't get fucked, David.

[00:17:51] [SPEAKER_02]: All right.

[00:17:52] [SPEAKER_02]: I played it before that episode, but before the chibi, before you said the guest.

[00:17:57] [SPEAKER_02]: So like, I guess in some sense you were wrong.

[00:18:00] [SPEAKER_02]: Sad.

[00:18:00] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.

[00:18:01] [SPEAKER_02]: Whatever.

[00:18:02] [SPEAKER_02]: Will you decide, listener?

[00:18:03] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, this is for you.

[00:18:06] [SPEAKER_02]: You decide how I'm right.

[00:18:07] [SPEAKER_02]: This is for you, David.

[00:18:10] [SPEAKER_02]: Who who said that?

[00:18:11] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't remember.

[00:18:12] [SPEAKER_02]: Obama.

[00:18:13] [SPEAKER_02]: Is it Michelle Obama?

[00:18:14] [SPEAKER_02]: WK.

[00:18:15] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it was actually Obama.

[00:18:16] [SPEAKER_02]: He was at the gathering of the Juggalos and he said that.

[00:18:19] [SPEAKER_01]: I love it.

[00:18:19] [SPEAKER_01]: I was thinking about fucking magnets because I was listening to Game Maker's Toolkit,

[00:18:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Game Maker's Toolkit, which is about magnet game.

[00:18:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, Jordan, that is all the time we have for today.

[00:18:27] [SPEAKER_01]: I want to say thank you so much for being my lovely co-host.

[00:18:29] [SPEAKER_02]: Thank you so much for all the work that you do on this podcast, David.

[00:19:20] [SPEAKER_01]: David, we are finishing up Cypher Academy.

[00:19:23] [SPEAKER_02]: We're covering part two with Josh from the volume one podcast.

[00:19:28] [SPEAKER_02]: Yes.

[00:19:29] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:19:29] [SPEAKER_01]: We had Megan on for part one and we knew we needed Josh for part two.

[00:19:33] [SPEAKER_02]: It wouldn't be fair to the other one.

[00:19:34] [SPEAKER_02]: Like one of them would have bragging rights and that would just ruin their whole relationship.

[00:19:38] [SPEAKER_02]: It would just mess everything up.

[00:19:40] [SPEAKER_02]: I couldn't have that on my conscience.

[00:19:41] [SPEAKER_01]: That's why Sean and Rem have been on the same number of pieces of Shonen Flop content.

[00:19:46] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:19:46] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:20:05] [SPEAKER_01]: The greatest manga of all time.

[00:20:07] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:20:07] [SPEAKER_01]: The manga of all time.

[00:20:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Was it the manga?

[00:20:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:20:19] [SPEAKER_01]: We had a very nice belly day where we ate some pie and that was really good.

[00:20:23] [SPEAKER_01]: And Sean, you like it wet and so do I.

[00:20:25] [SPEAKER_01]: I know you never waste a drip.

[00:20:26] [SPEAKER_01]: I feel a little poke coming through.

[00:21:32] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm talking about Craymaster 4 and Craymaster 1, which were the two first ones.

[00:21:37] [SPEAKER_02]: They are not numbered in chronological order.

[00:21:39] [SPEAKER_02]: They are actually numbered based on what dissension the testicles are at at a certain time.
