MAL Description:
When he was in third grade, Hayuma Minekoshi became entranced by the world of figure skating. After meeting a mysterious girl and witnessing her perform a mesmerizing triple axel at a competition, Hayuma resolved to learn the sport—even if he had to teach himself the basics. Despite the hardships, Hayuma persisted in hopes of encountering the enigmatic prodigy again. However, one year later, Hayuma discovered that the girl he admired disappeared from the limelight. Having never learned her name, he gave up hope of being able to find her again.
Now in his third year of middle school, Hayuma moves from his small northern hometown to Tokyo, where he has a chance to learn figure skating properly. In a twist of fate, that same mysterious girl reappears at the rink. As the two reunite, former prodigy Kisara Saotome reveals that she had quit competing in singles to try her luck in pair skating. Seeing potential in Hayuma despite his lack of experience, Kisara invites him to be her temporary partner. However, Hayuma must face difficult training to catch up to Kisara's skill level—let alone be ready to compete.

[00:00:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to Shonen Flop Chibi! First Impressions mini-episode where we talk about the first chapter of the series. We'll be covering in-depth next week with our guest, Jan, the official series translator.
[00:00:25] [SPEAKER_02]: Hell yeah, we know people love us having official translators on the show so we try our best to get when we can.
[00:00:32] [SPEAKER_01]: And by people I mean us, because we love having the official translators. It's great!
[00:00:37] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm Jordan and with me today as usual is my lovely co-host David. Say hi David!
[00:00:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Hi David!
[00:00:41] [SPEAKER_01]: And with Sears we're covering this week, David!
[00:00:43] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I should've given you a chill response because we are covering Two on Ice, the icening.
[00:00:48] [SPEAKER_01]: The icening, yeah.
[00:00:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh man, it's a shame that like One on Ice never got translated, you know?
[00:00:54] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the- or- fucking or- baruto ice.
[00:00:58] [SPEAKER_02]: What?
[00:00:58] [SPEAKER_02]: I was trying to make some shitty baruto.
[00:01:00] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, oh.
[00:01:01] [SPEAKER_02]: Three on Ice, that's gonna be the series next hit.
[00:01:04] [SPEAKER_02]: Threw on Bice, yeah.
[00:01:06] [SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
[00:01:06] [SPEAKER_02]: There we go, yeah.
[00:01:08] [SPEAKER_02]: Just thruple on ice skates.
[00:01:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Threw on Ice.
[00:01:12] [SPEAKER_01]: Anyway.
[00:01:13] [SPEAKER_02]: Tell us about the series, Jordan.
[00:01:15] [SPEAKER_01]: So this is Two on Ice, it was written by Itsumo Aite.
[00:01:19] [SPEAKER_01]: This ran from September 25th, 2023 to April 15th, 2024.
[00:01:23] [SPEAKER_01]: 28 chapters, four volumes.
[00:01:25] [SPEAKER_01]: I will say, initially we thought it had 31 on the Shonen Jump app, there are only 28.
[00:01:30] [SPEAKER_01]: This points to maybe there was a three chapter epilogue, but there's only 28 on the Jump app,
[00:01:35] [SPEAKER_01]: so that's what we're reading.
[00:01:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:01:37] [SPEAKER_01]: And then Jordan, what happened in this first chapter?
[00:01:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, David, it sounds like you want to go into the plot summary.
[00:01:42] [SPEAKER_01]: I always do.
[00:01:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, let's do it.
[00:01:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Third grader Hayuma is really good at sports and just started learning how to ice skate
[00:01:49] [SPEAKER_01]: when he goes to a figure skating competition with his mom.
[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_01]: There he sees a girl who's an incredible prodigy that can do flippy jumps and shit,
[00:01:57] [SPEAKER_01]: and he's mesmerized.
[00:01:59] [SPEAKER_01]: He briefly talks to her and decides that he's gonna become as good as her,
[00:02:02] [SPEAKER_01]: and uses her as a role model.
[00:02:04] [SPEAKER_01]: He watches her on TV when she's reported on being so damn skillful, David.
[00:02:09] [SPEAKER_01]: But then, in fifth grade, when the world needed her most, she disappeared.
[00:02:13] [SPEAKER_01]: She vanished.
[00:02:14] [SPEAKER_01]: Without a trace.
[00:02:15] [SPEAKER_01]: For a hundred years, popcorn David.
[00:02:17] [SPEAKER_02]: Years later, Hayuma and his family move to Tokyo and discover a girl in an iceberg.
[00:02:21] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, God.
[00:02:22] [SPEAKER_02]: Hayuma spends the past few years sneaking out and practicing figure skating in secret on
[00:02:26] [SPEAKER_02]: a frozen lake, and is psyched that there are indoor rinks here.
[00:02:29] [SPEAKER_02]: He is quickly reprimanded for jumping, which is against the rules of free skate time,
[00:02:32] [SPEAKER_02]: and he realizes that holy shit, the girl scolding him is that very prodigy.
[00:02:36] [SPEAKER_02]: And can I say, it seems like a very reasonable policy.
[00:02:38] [SPEAKER_02]: You cannot do advanced ice skating moves during free skate.
[00:02:40] [SPEAKER_01]: That is fair, yes, because if you fuck up, you could run into a bunch of people,
[00:02:45] [SPEAKER_01]: and you guys have blades on your feet.
[00:02:47] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:02:48] [SPEAKER_02]: She invites him to come by later so she can teach him more better, as Jordan has written.
[00:02:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Uh-huh.
[00:02:52] [SPEAKER_02]: And she notices that his techniques are like hers because he copied her moves.
[00:02:56] [SPEAKER_02]: She tells him that she quit single skating because she wanted to focus on couple skating,
[00:02:59] [SPEAKER_02]: and invites him to be her temporary partner.
[00:03:01] [SPEAKER_02]: He asks her name, and she says it's Kisara Satome, confirming that she is the prodigy,
[00:03:05] [SPEAKER_02]: and is the exact same move that was used at the end of the first chapter of Don to Don,
[00:03:09] [SPEAKER_02]: which is a much better series, but has absolutely nothing in common besides that,
[00:03:13] [SPEAKER_02]: just being a trope in that first chapter as well.
[00:03:15] [SPEAKER_01]: That's true, although I will say there's a bit in common with the manga we just covered.
[00:03:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
[00:03:21] [SPEAKER_02]: So now I'm thinking this guy is Taskmaster, or he has a Sharingan where if you see someone
[00:03:26] [SPEAKER_02]: do an ice skating movie, just copies it.
[00:03:27] [SPEAKER_02]: But my stupid idea, I was thinking about that scene in Blade where he says it's as hard as
[00:03:31] [SPEAKER_02]: ice skating uphill, and they kind of talk about that.
[00:03:34] [SPEAKER_02]: And I'm just thinking, what if they're ice skating uphill and Blade is just watching them
[00:03:38] [SPEAKER_02]: in astonishment?
[00:03:38] [SPEAKER_02]: I do like that.
[00:03:39] [SPEAKER_02]: So that'll be the cover art of Jordan can't think of anything better.
[00:03:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Or two ice cubes, you know, I'm just saying, just two ice cubes sitting there.
[00:03:46] [SPEAKER_01]: That is a possibility, you know?
[00:03:48] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what to do with that information.
[00:03:49] [SPEAKER_01]: But Jordan, what was your first impressions of this?
[00:03:51] [SPEAKER_01]: The art is very inconsistent.
[00:03:53] [SPEAKER_01]: A lot of it feels kind of unfinished, unpolished.
[00:03:57] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[00:03:57] [SPEAKER_01]: But then there are moments where I really love this guy's shading.
[00:04:00] [SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of mass that he puts in there.
[00:04:03] [SPEAKER_01]: It almost looks like watercolor, which is impressive because it's just, he's using like an ink pen.
[00:04:07] [SPEAKER_01]: It's interesting because it's not bad art.
[00:04:10] [SPEAKER_01]: It's just, you know, there are parts where it's bad.
[00:04:12] [SPEAKER_01]: There are parts where the art is bad.
[00:04:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:04:14] [SPEAKER_01]: There's a moment where you just have two straight up fucking stick figures talking at each other.
[00:04:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Which was insane.
[00:04:20] [SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of lack of shading at times.
[00:04:22] [SPEAKER_01]: A lot of lack of shading, a lot of drawings with very little detail on them.
[00:04:27] [SPEAKER_01]: But every now and then, there's a drawing that's just a banger.
[00:04:30] [SPEAKER_01]: You know what?
[00:04:30] [SPEAKER_02]: That's fair.
[00:04:31] [SPEAKER_02]: And Jordan has alluded, this reminds me a lot of Green Green Greens in that it doesn't because
[00:04:35] [SPEAKER_02]: this is nowhere near as good as Green Green Greens' first chapter.
[00:04:39] [SPEAKER_02]: No, but the bones are there.
[00:04:41] [SPEAKER_02]: A collection of bones, you might say.
[00:04:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh no, no, I don't mean that.
[00:04:45] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you have a guy who is interested in learning from this girl who's extremely proficient
[00:04:51] [SPEAKER_01]: at her sport of choice.
[00:04:53] [SPEAKER_01]: And so he tries copying her.
[00:04:55] [SPEAKER_01]: But at the same time, yeah.
[00:04:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Besides that, actually, no, I'm not really sure there's much in common.
[00:05:00] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's okay.
[00:05:01] [SPEAKER_02]: I also want to say there is a lot of text.
[00:05:03] [SPEAKER_02]: I've also heard complaints that it continues to have a fuck ton of text.
[00:05:06] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, great.
[00:05:07] [SPEAKER_02]: So Hunter Hunter, I guess, is coming back.
[00:05:09] [SPEAKER_02]: So get ready for that, Jordan.
[00:05:11] [SPEAKER_01]: David, I have been trying so many times to catch up on Hunter Hunter, but it's like reading
[00:05:16] [SPEAKER_01]: a book and it's like it would be easier if it just was a book.
[00:05:21] [SPEAKER_02]: It would actually probably finish because then Togashi could actually do his whole plot
[00:05:25] [SPEAKER_02]: idea.
[00:05:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Because then it's like you would like you're used to reading a book like a book, but it's
[00:05:29] [SPEAKER_01]: like you're reading a comic and it's like a book and it's like there's as much words
[00:05:32] [SPEAKER_01]: as a book and it's what the fuck is happening.
[00:05:35] [SPEAKER_01]: It's very hard to like process the whole thing.
[00:05:37] [SPEAKER_01]: It's a Game of Thrones level of complexity.
[00:05:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, we're not talking about that.
[00:05:43] [SPEAKER_01]: We're talking about fucking Two on Ice, which I was like, isn't that a book?
[00:05:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Isn't that the gay ice skating?
[00:05:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Yuri on Ice.
[00:05:49] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:05:50] [SPEAKER_02]: I thought about making a guess if there will be any ambiguously homosexual characters in
[00:05:53] [SPEAKER_02]: the series, but it felt a little inappropriate.
[00:05:55] [SPEAKER_01]: It's funny because it's literally a manga about a guy and a girl teaming up versus Yuri
[00:06:01] [SPEAKER_01]: on switches.
[00:06:02] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but they're just friends.
[00:06:04] [SPEAKER_01]: They're just friends for now.
[00:06:05] [SPEAKER_02]: I also want to say, man, nothing about the chapter made me interested in ice skating.
[00:06:09] [SPEAKER_01]: No, me neither.
[00:06:10] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't care at all.
[00:06:12] [SPEAKER_01]: What's funny is that I think I cared more about ice skating than I did about golf.
[00:06:15] [SPEAKER_01]: And I don't give a fuck about this.
[00:06:18] [SPEAKER_01]: I care significantly more after the first chapter of the green, green, greens than I do
[00:06:21] [SPEAKER_01]: after this.
[00:06:22] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[00:06:22] [SPEAKER_02]: I feel like the big thing about golf is you could just go play golf.
[00:06:26] [SPEAKER_02]: You're never going to do professional figure skating.
[00:06:28] [SPEAKER_01]: You can go to an ice skating rink and stuff, but like you could go play a game of golf tomorrow
[00:06:33] [SPEAKER_02]: if you wanted.
[00:06:34] [SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
[00:06:34] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, if you live in a certain area, you could go and try to do this, I guess.
[00:06:40] [SPEAKER_01]: But professional?
[00:06:41] [SPEAKER_01]: No, probably not.
[00:06:42] [SPEAKER_02]: I also feel like this chapter in structure, there's so much text and it's a lot of not
[00:06:46] [SPEAKER_02]: caring about skating.
[00:06:47] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't care about these characters and I really don't like how front loaded his entire
[00:06:51] [SPEAKER_02]: backstory without giving me a reason to give a shit.
[00:06:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[00:06:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[00:06:54] [SPEAKER_02]: I just did not care about this character's backstory this early in the series.
[00:06:57] [SPEAKER_01]: I will say I do appreciate how he's not in love with her.
[00:07:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Like he genuinely idolizes her skill.
[00:07:03] [SPEAKER_01]: But you know, it is still like, I don't know.
[00:07:06] [SPEAKER_01]: That is kind of what happened in green, green, green.
[00:07:08] [SPEAKER_02]: I think the series is going to suffer because we read probably one of the best sports manga
[00:07:12] [SPEAKER_02]: that we've ever covered on the show, if not the best sports manga.
[00:07:15] [SPEAKER_02]: I mean that we covered on the show at least easily.
[00:07:17] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[00:07:18] [SPEAKER_02]: It's also in contrast to green and greens.
[00:07:20] [SPEAKER_02]: All these characters feel like ice skating robots.
[00:07:22] [SPEAKER_02]: There's no little jokes.
[00:07:23] [SPEAKER_02]: They only talk and only care about ice skating.
[00:07:26] [SPEAKER_02]: Nothing actually makes these characters feel like people.
[00:07:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Nothing really happened in this chapter.
[00:07:30] [SPEAKER_01]: There wasn't really any kind of conflict that was resolved.
[00:07:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:07:33] [SPEAKER_01]: What a colossal waste of like 60 pages.
[00:07:35] [SPEAKER_01]: It does feel like a waste.
[00:07:37] [SPEAKER_01]: The main plot of this chapter is man, where's this girl that I thought was really cool?
[00:07:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, damn.
[00:07:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Here's the girl that I thought was really cool.
[00:07:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:07:46] [SPEAKER_01]: We're teaming up now.
[00:07:47] [SPEAKER_02]: They also say what the name of the arc is at the start of the arc.
[00:07:50] [SPEAKER_02]: It just felt very weird.
[00:07:52] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't think I've ever seen that before.
[00:07:54] [SPEAKER_02]: Bold of them to be like, yeah, this is a whole arc.
[00:07:57] [SPEAKER_02]: We're going to have multiple arcs.
[00:07:59] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[00:07:59] [SPEAKER_02]: And then Jordan, though, how about you?
[00:08:00] [SPEAKER_02]: Is there anything we haven't brought up yet you want to discuss?
[00:08:03] [SPEAKER_01]: It was a little bit confusing how much he even knew about her.
[00:08:07] [SPEAKER_01]: We both thought that he didn't even know Kisara's name until like literally the last
[00:08:12] [SPEAKER_01]: moment where she says her name and then he recognizes like, oh, I guess he did know
[00:08:16] [SPEAKER_01]: her name.
[00:08:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[00:08:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:08:17] [SPEAKER_01]: It is kind of odd that it didn't come up at all until then.
[00:08:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:08:20] [SPEAKER_01]: It's just poor writing and confusing.
[00:08:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:08:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Because then when she says her name, if we knew what her name was, it would be like,
[00:08:27] [SPEAKER_01]: oh shit, that's her.
[00:08:28] [SPEAKER_01]: But instead we had to get another text box where he's like, oh shit, it's her.
[00:08:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Imagine if they have to fight the chimera ant.
[00:08:34] [SPEAKER_01]: God.
[00:08:35] [SPEAKER_01]: With ice skating.
[00:08:36] [SPEAKER_01]: What if the chimera ant arc was narrated by Ron Howard?
[00:08:39] [SPEAKER_02]: Then maybe I would have tolerated it.
[00:08:40] [SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, Jordan, would you read in our 10 chapters of this?
[00:08:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Nah.
[00:08:44] [SPEAKER_02]: Nah.
[00:08:45] [SPEAKER_02]: And before we get into what we think will happen next, if you've been enjoying the show,
[00:08:49] [SPEAKER_02]: we'd really appreciate it if you subscribe to the Shonen Flop YouTube.
[00:08:51] [SPEAKER_02]: We're trying to hit our goal of 1500 YouTube subs.
[00:08:54] [SPEAKER_02]: And if we do it, we will do a special bonus episode on the Build King Epilogue.
[00:08:58] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh my God.
[00:08:58] [SPEAKER_02]: If you've already subscribed, thank you so much.
[00:09:00] [SPEAKER_02]: And what do you think will happen next, Jordan?
[00:09:02] [SPEAKER_01]: First of all, I think this is going to end up being a romance manga.
[00:09:05] [SPEAKER_01]: I think they're going to be together.
[00:09:07] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm getting that vibe.
[00:09:08] [SPEAKER_01]: I think they're going to flash forward at the end when they're big famous skaters and stuff.
[00:09:13] [SPEAKER_01]: And the last one is that she really left the public eye due to a tragedy.
[00:09:18] [SPEAKER_01]: How about you?
[00:09:19] [SPEAKER_01]: What daring guesses?
[00:09:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Hey, you know, I need points.
[00:09:23] [SPEAKER_02]: Let me get a Shonen with a male and female protagonists that are going to fall in love.
[00:09:27] [SPEAKER_02]: And there's a time skip at the end.
[00:09:29] [SPEAKER_02]: And the main character had an incident.
[00:09:31] [SPEAKER_01]: They did not fall in love in Green Green Greens.
[00:09:34] [SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
[00:09:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Nor did they like fall in love in Martial Master Asumi.
[00:09:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
[00:09:38] [SPEAKER_01]: One of the, like the main character had a crush.
[00:09:40] [SPEAKER_02]: It did happen in full drive though.
[00:09:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:09:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:09:43] [SPEAKER_01]: It happened in full drive.
[00:09:44] [SPEAKER_01]: And is there another one?
[00:09:46] [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, maybe.
[00:09:47] [SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
[00:09:47] [SPEAKER_02]: Let me look at the schedule.
[00:09:48] [SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
[00:09:49] [SPEAKER_02]: Did they fall in love in double arts?
[00:09:51] [SPEAKER_02]: No, at least I'm pretty sure they aren't.
[00:09:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, wizard soul.
[00:09:54] [SPEAKER_02]: They did.
[00:09:55] [SPEAKER_01]: We're on like the last fucking page.
[00:09:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but that was like position.
[00:09:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Like at the first chapter, they were like, we both have a crush on each other.
[00:10:02] [SPEAKER_02]: Fair enough.
[00:10:02] [SPEAKER_02]: And then Jordan, my guesses are they aren't going to explain how the main character got insanely
[00:10:06] [SPEAKER_02]: good.
[00:10:06] [SPEAKER_02]: Cause I think that is absolutely ridiculous.
[00:10:08] [SPEAKER_02]: He does not have a fucking like tell, like that's like a legit superpower.
[00:10:11] [SPEAKER_02]: If you could teach himself off of recordings.
[00:10:13] [SPEAKER_02]: I think that's an unfair explanation for how he got so good.
[00:10:16] [SPEAKER_02]: They did say that he practiced a lot.
[00:10:19] [SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
[00:10:19] [SPEAKER_02]: But you need practice and coaching because you can practice wrongly for 10,000 hours.
[00:10:23] [SPEAKER_02]: That's fair.
[00:10:23] [SPEAKER_02]: I also think the main male character is going to try and do a big skinny move in a competition
[00:10:27] [SPEAKER_02]: and then he fails.
[00:10:29] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh no.
[00:10:30] [SPEAKER_02]: And this will not increase my interest in skating in the slightest.
[00:10:34] [SPEAKER_02]: In fact, I may end up caring about skating less after reading this.
[00:10:39] [SPEAKER_01]: I think that is possible.
[00:10:40] [SPEAKER_02]: And then Jordan, what's your power word?
[00:10:41] [SPEAKER_02]: Cracked.
[00:10:42] [SPEAKER_02]: Why cracked?
[00:10:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Cause it's an ice skating rink that is cracked cause it's not very strong or stable.
[00:10:49] [SPEAKER_01]: Fair.
[00:10:50] [SPEAKER_02]: Mine is cold cause I gave us a very cold reception.
[00:10:53] [SPEAKER_01]: That is true.
[00:10:54] [SPEAKER_02]: And, uh, ice skating has a little bit to do with cold temperatures.
[00:10:57] [SPEAKER_02]: A little bit.
[00:10:58] [SPEAKER_02]: Uh, man.
[00:11:00] [SPEAKER_02]: Jordan, you ready for the Q and a let's do it.
[00:11:02] [SPEAKER_02]: All right.
[00:11:02] [SPEAKER_02]: Let's move on to that.
[00:11:03] [SPEAKER_02]: So let's now move on to the Q and a just reminder.
[00:11:05] [SPEAKER_02]: You can drop your questions in the show and flop discord.
[00:11:07] [SPEAKER_02]: Get priority to those who haven't asked a question before our patrons or haven't
[00:11:10] [SPEAKER_02]: had a question answered in a long time.
[00:11:12] [SPEAKER_02]: Starting with dude rocks.
[00:11:14] [SPEAKER_02]: What's your favorite month?
[00:11:15] [SPEAKER_02]: And what is your least favorite month?
[00:11:16] [SPEAKER_01]: My birthday is in August and I do like the summer.
[00:11:19] [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going to say my favorite is August as for like least favorite.
[00:11:24] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
[00:11:24] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, April's kind of meh.
[00:11:27] [SPEAKER_02]: I would say I actually don't like August cause it's so hot.
[00:11:29] [SPEAKER_02]: Damn.
[00:11:30] [SPEAKER_02]: Uh, and humid.
[00:11:31] [SPEAKER_02]: I will say though, my favorite month.
[00:11:33] [SPEAKER_02]: I quite like October get to have the big spooky holiday.
[00:11:37] [SPEAKER_02]: It's getting cold enough, but not so cold that you need to wear a jacket at all times.
[00:11:40] [SPEAKER_01]: October is very good.
[00:11:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
[00:11:42] [SPEAKER_01]: October might be my second favorite.
[00:11:44] [SPEAKER_02]: I know that's not a, that's not a hot take to like October.
[00:11:47] [SPEAKER_02]: No, not at all.
[00:11:48] [SPEAKER_02]: Next up.
[00:11:49] [SPEAKER_02]: Meru asks, what's your favorite place to sit and read jump?
[00:11:52] [SPEAKER_02]: Uh, the toilet.
[00:11:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Mine is in my bed.
[00:11:54] [SPEAKER_02]: I like to do my shown and flop reading when I wake up before Rachel does.
[00:11:57] [SPEAKER_02]: Nice.
[00:11:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:11:58] [SPEAKER_01]: It's either the bathroom or my bed.
[00:12:00] [SPEAKER_01]: If that's it, that's, that's kind of where I do it.
[00:12:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Big too.
[00:12:02] [SPEAKER_01]: The main places that I am during the day.
[00:12:05] [SPEAKER_02]: All right.
[00:12:05] [SPEAKER_02]: Next up from captain clueless, what flop protagonist would run the best business and what would
[00:12:10] [SPEAKER_02]: they sell?
[00:12:11] [SPEAKER_01]: I was thinking about this.
[00:12:12] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, on one hand, I initially thought maybe cyborg grandpa G because I at least
[00:12:17] [SPEAKER_01]: know what he would sell its vegetables.
[00:12:18] [SPEAKER_01]: But on the other hand, I'm pretty sure he would scare off all business.
[00:12:21] [SPEAKER_01]: So I don't think that would be very successful.
[00:12:24] [SPEAKER_02]: I feel the lady from candy flurry would open a really good candy shop.
[00:12:28] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[00:12:29] [SPEAKER_02]: I also think BT when he got older would just be able to sell fucking anything.
[00:12:33] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, BT, I feel like would be just a straight up con artist.
[00:12:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Like he would sell.
[00:12:38] [SPEAKER_01]: He did steal dinosaur fossils.
[00:12:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:12:40] [SPEAKER_01]: You know what?
[00:12:41] [SPEAKER_01]: I think that like the kid from Mora King would sell like, um, supplies to take care of bugs
[00:12:48] [SPEAKER_01]: and insects.
[00:12:49] [SPEAKER_02]: You know, I respect that.
[00:12:50] [SPEAKER_02]: Actually, the guy from super smartphone could just sell his information for a ton of money.
[00:12:54] [SPEAKER_01]: He could sell information.
[00:12:56] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that is true.
[00:12:57] [SPEAKER_02]: All right.
[00:12:57] [SPEAKER_02]: Next from ZZ Digital.
[00:12:58] [SPEAKER_02]: Which flop protagonist would create the worst manga?
[00:13:01] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, canonically, it's the guy from Takamagahara.
[00:13:04] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:13:04] [SPEAKER_01]: He literally made a manga so bad that it like made people like it like knock people unconscious
[00:13:10] [SPEAKER_02]: or something like I was thinking the guy from fuck.
[00:13:14] [SPEAKER_02]: I just had it.
[00:13:15] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, Jim Naruto, because it would just be extremely racist and probably star him as a huge Mary Sue
[00:13:20] [SPEAKER_02]: and everyone would be like, this sucks.
[00:13:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:13:21] [SPEAKER_01]: The manga he made would just be Tokyo Shinobi Squad, but like with worse art.
[00:13:26] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[00:13:26] [SPEAKER_02]: Do you think it's like really easy to be a good artist in like the world of Zan because everyone
[00:13:30] [SPEAKER_02]: is drawn so shittily?
[00:13:31] [SPEAKER_02]: So it's like if you draw if the character draws and it's cartoony, is that like photo realism?
[00:13:36] [SPEAKER_01]: David, that's a question you could ask for literally every artist in any cartoon.
[00:13:41] [SPEAKER_01]: It's like, well, if they draw this character cartoony, is that photo realism?
[00:13:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Because they're cartoons.
[00:13:47] [SPEAKER_02]: Some things deal with that.
[00:13:48] [SPEAKER_02]: Like SpongeBob, I think has live action as their cartoons, which I thought was cute.
[00:13:51] [SPEAKER_01]: That is.
[00:13:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:13:52] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if I've noticed that.
[00:13:54] [SPEAKER_01]: I noticed that he watches live action stuff.
[00:13:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:13:56] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
[00:13:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Or some do it where it's like a 2D animation and the cartoons are 3D.
[00:14:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[00:14:00] [SPEAKER_01]: It's cute.
[00:14:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe in the world of Zan, it has to be actually photorealistic then because it is such a
[00:14:06] [SPEAKER_01]: departure from how people are supposed to look.
[00:14:09] [SPEAKER_02]: All right.
[00:14:09] [SPEAKER_02]: Next from Ooglink 20, they have what's one manga that clearly is not a flop that you
[00:14:14] [SPEAKER_01]: really think should have been a flop.
[00:14:16] [SPEAKER_01]: So there's two ways to read this.
[00:14:17] [SPEAKER_01]: One is what's a manga that sucks that is very famous?
[00:14:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Or the other one is what's a manga by all accounts by like how we cover manga.
[00:14:27] [SPEAKER_01]: What's a manga that Shonen Jump would have axed?
[00:14:30] [SPEAKER_01]: You know, for instance, if it started today, Kanikuman 100% would have gotten axed because
[00:14:35] [SPEAKER_01]: the first arc of Kanikuman is fucking horrible.
[00:14:39] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, part one of Jojo also, I don't think would have survived.
[00:14:43] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know because the weirdness of Jojo.
[00:14:45] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
[00:14:46] [SPEAKER_02]: It was just bad fists in a North Star though.
[00:14:48] [SPEAKER_02]: That's true.
[00:14:49] [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I still think, fuck, what's the one about the assassin family?
[00:14:52] [SPEAKER_02]: Mission family?
[00:14:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[00:14:53] [SPEAKER_02]: I still can't believe mission family is now going to be like the third longest running
[00:14:56] [SPEAKER_02]: Shonen Jump series right now.
[00:14:58] [SPEAKER_02]: It is?
[00:14:59] [SPEAKER_02]: Not total, like running in Shonen Jump.
[00:15:01] [SPEAKER_02]: When One Piece is on break and there's no 100, it is the oldest manga in Shonen Jump.
[00:15:05] [SPEAKER_02]: What?
[00:15:06] [SPEAKER_02]: Right?
[00:15:07] [SPEAKER_01]: I had no idea.
[00:15:09] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[00:15:09] [SPEAKER_01]: I will also say that I read the first chapter of Undead Unluck and that is bad.
[00:15:14] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, we're going to do an episode on that soon.
[00:15:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, cool.
[00:15:17] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
[00:15:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it gets better, but...
[00:15:19] [SPEAKER_02]: It started in 2019, by the way.
[00:15:21] [SPEAKER_02]: So Mission Family has been running for five years.
[00:15:23] [SPEAKER_02]: Damn.
[00:15:24] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[00:15:24] [SPEAKER_02]: Also, Chujutsu Kaisen, fuck your ending.
[00:15:26] [SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, no spoilers.
[00:15:27] [SPEAKER_02]: Just what a shit ending.
[00:15:28] [SPEAKER_02]: Gage definitely gave up.
[00:15:29] [SPEAKER_02]: Or Gage.
[00:15:30] [SPEAKER_02]: That sucks.
[00:15:31] [SPEAKER_02]: That's so sad.
[00:15:32] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he really was on AWPOT for the last two years of that.
[00:15:34] [SPEAKER_02]: Ugh.
[00:15:35] [SPEAKER_02]: Finally, from Mr. Davey, if you had to make a non-action game based on a Jump manga, what
[00:15:39] [SPEAKER_02]: would you pick and what would it be about?
[00:15:41] [SPEAKER_02]: Damn, who's this Mr. Davey guy?
[00:15:43] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
[00:15:43] [SPEAKER_02]: Imagine if it was like a fucking Candy Tycoon game about Candy Flurry.
[00:15:47] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:15:47] [SPEAKER_01]: See, my idea was Kako and the False Detective.
[00:15:51] [SPEAKER_01]: It's like a Phoenix Wright style game.
[00:15:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I always think it'd be more like a point and click.
[00:15:54] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's kind of what Phoenix Wright is.
[00:15:57] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[00:15:57] [SPEAKER_02]: It is kind of a point and click game.
[00:15:58] [SPEAKER_02]: Actually, Takeki Ryusei probably would make a good Yakuza game.
[00:16:01] [SPEAKER_02]: Or actually, it probably could make a good strategy game.
[00:16:06] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it would probably make a good Yakuza game because the Fist of the North Star game
[00:16:11] [SPEAKER_01]: is literally a Yakuza game.
[00:16:12] [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, maybe a strategy one.
[00:16:15] [SPEAKER_02]: Also, the low-hanging fruit is also sports games based on any of the sports series.
[00:16:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but that is, as you said, low-hanging fruit.
[00:16:22] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[00:16:22] [SPEAKER_02]: I feel Mama Yu-Gi could make a really fun turn-based RPG.
[00:16:26] [SPEAKER_02]: I think I can see that.
[00:16:28] [SPEAKER_02]: Just make a fucking fighting game about, what's her name?
[00:16:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh shit.
[00:16:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:16:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, fuck. Minerva.
[00:16:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:16:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no, that's good.
[00:16:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Idle fighting game.
[00:16:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:16:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe.
[00:16:37] [SPEAKER_01]: What are the best jokes in any of the manga we've covered, by the way?
[00:16:42] [SPEAKER_02]: I really wish there was precedent where he could have just made a manga about Minerva
[00:16:45] [SPEAKER_02]: after this got canceled.
[00:16:47] [SPEAKER_02]: It would have been better.
[00:16:48] [SPEAKER_02]: How about an edutainment game about Hungry Marie?
[00:16:51] [SPEAKER_02]: Sorry, an edutainment game about...
[00:16:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Why am I spacing on it?
[00:16:54] [SPEAKER_02]: Hungry Joker.
[00:16:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Or we mentioned it, I think, last week.
[00:16:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Like a dating sim based on Teenage Renaissance David.
[00:17:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:17:01] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, and Ozu obviously could be like a zoo simulator.
[00:17:04] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:17:04] [SPEAKER_01]: And Doron Dororon can be like a Pokemon game.
[00:17:08] [SPEAKER_02]: Actually, that sounds pretty dope if it was like XCOM style where the zoo is your base
[00:17:11] [SPEAKER_02]: and then you send people in the zoo off to missions at night.
[00:17:13] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh my God.
[00:17:14] [SPEAKER_02]: That actually sounds really fun.
[00:17:16] [SPEAKER_01]: That does sound like Madagascar a little bit.
[00:17:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:17:19] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh my God.
[00:17:20] [SPEAKER_02]: All right.
[00:17:20] [SPEAKER_02]: But that's all the time we have for questions today.
[00:17:22] [SPEAKER_02]: Jordan, I want to say thank you so much for all your hard work on the show.

[00:18:36] [SPEAKER_01]: David, I finally got you to read Get a Robo.
[00:18:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Hell yeah.
[00:18:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:18:41] [SPEAKER_01]: And then the mystery box.
[00:18:44] [SPEAKER_01]: We're going to read the pilot for Cool Shock BT.
[00:18:46] [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, the proto BT.
[00:18:48] [SPEAKER_02]: BT before he was BT.
[00:18:50] [SPEAKER_02]: BT BC.
[00:18:51] [SPEAKER_02]: BT BC.
[00:18:51] [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, the PT BC BT.

[00:19:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Hi, OC Red.
[00:19:11] [SPEAKER_02]: Do you like the way I smack your ass?
[00:19:12] [SPEAKER_02]: Do you ever feel like a plastic bag?
[00:19:14] [SPEAKER_02]: Clornak and Rachel, my wonderful wife, she made a delicious apple cobbler last night.
[00:19:19] [SPEAKER_02]: It was fantastic.
[00:19:20] [SPEAKER_02]: Moving on down to the ravioli tier.
[00:19:22] [SPEAKER_02]: Ravioli's silly fact this week is she has now gotten so used to me feeding her frozen peas.
[00:19:27] [SPEAKER_02]: Whenever I take peas out, she just looks at the floor, assuming I'm already throwing some on the ground.
[00:19:31] [SPEAKER_02]: We have Chris, Eva, Jennette Davis, Lady T, Matt, Skrullmurman, T, Tiffany, and Trevor.
[00:19:36] [SPEAKER_02]: Moving on down to the king of the forest.

[00:19:45] [SPEAKER_02]: T. Wolfwood.
[00:19:46] [SPEAKER_02]: And Tommy Boy.
[00:19:47] [SPEAKER_02]: Moving on down to Galactic Ball Federation officers.
[00:19:48] [SPEAKER_02]: We have a midsize sedan.
[00:19:50] [SPEAKER_02]: Ages.
[00:19:50] [SPEAKER_02]: Andrew.

[00:19:51] [SPEAKER_02]: Aura.
[00:19:51] [SPEAKER_02]: Baiza.

[00:20:04] [SPEAKER_02]: Thank you for joining.
[00:20:05] [SPEAKER_02]: Generic Man.
