[00:00:27] Welcome to this episode of Shonen Flop where we talk about manga and shonen jump that didn't make it big. I'm David.

[00:00:31] I'm Jordan.

[00:00:32] Next week we'll be covering Psych House if you'd like to read along with us.

[00:00:35] Psych!

[00:00:36] Oh, that's gonna be the cover art.

[00:00:37] Oh god.

[00:00:38] Be sure to join the discussion in our discord and submit your six word summary.

[00:00:42] You can find a link to the discord in our episode description and on our website shonenflop.com.

[00:00:46] But this week we are talking about Kyokutou Necroman.

[00:00:48] I really wanted to give it a try and then I just kind of just was...

[00:00:51] Try it. Let's try it one more time, David.

[00:00:54] Kyokutou.

[00:00:54] Yeah. Yeah. Okay.

[00:00:56] There we go.

[00:00:56] Kyokutou Necroman.

[00:00:57] And we are joined by our guest today, Yato. Yato, thank you so much for joining us.

[00:01:01] Do you mind telling the audience a little bit about yourself?

[00:01:03] Yes, thank you for having me.

[00:01:04] I am Yato, also known as Yatogami or Yato Plays, which is with a Z. I don't like that

[00:01:09] name, but you can call me Yato. I do videos on YouTube about different manga, you know,

[00:01:15] stuff that usually I want to focus on newer stuff. But lately I've been kind of lazy.

[00:01:19] So my channel has just been, you know, JJK and other stupid stuff. And I started a podcast

[00:01:23] recently, but maybe I'll talk about that more later.

[00:01:25] Hey, podcasts are great.

[00:01:26] Right on.

[00:01:26] I would know firsthand.

[00:01:27] I've heard a couple podcasts.

[00:01:29] I've heard of podcasts.

[00:01:30] They're casts that I listen to on my iPod.

[00:01:32] I forget it's government issued ID name, but I do love Ranger Reject and I need to finish

[00:01:38] it up.

[00:01:38] Oh, yeah. That's the only name you need to know.

[00:01:40] It's like how you don't. It's Dungeon Meshy, you know?

[00:01:43] Yeah, we don't say that other name.

[00:01:46] Even though the French name is Glutton and Dragons, and I don't understand why they didn't

[00:01:49] use that name.

[00:01:50] I did not know that.

[00:01:51] Isn't that such a better name than Delicious and Dungeon?

[00:01:53] I like that. Yeah.

[00:01:54] Well, I still think I like Dungeon Meshy more just because like, you know, Japanese.

[00:01:58] Japanese.

[00:01:59] Wasn't it like a specific request from the author?

[00:02:01] So it's like Delicious in Dungeons D&D?

[00:02:04] Yes, it is.

[00:02:05] But it's also one of those like only made sense to somebody who doesn't really speak English

[00:02:08] to think of that.

[00:02:09] Yeah.

[00:02:10] But anyway, let's get into the manga details.

[00:02:13] You know, it's a good episode where we're talking about different manga at the beginning.

[00:02:18] Damn.

[00:02:19] You'll love to see it.

[00:02:21] Oh.

[00:02:22] And I love to hear our manga details.

[00:02:24] So let's do it.

[00:02:25] Yokoto means Far East.

[00:02:27] The title suggests something like necromancy in the Far East.

[00:02:31] Sounds like it's either referring to an Eastern style of necromancy or like it's a company

[00:02:36] or it's a company slash organization name.

[00:02:40] David says that he talked to David Evelyn, who's the official translator, and apparently

[00:02:44] was almost called Far East Necromancy.

[00:02:47] Yeah, he was like at the last minute they changed it.

[00:02:49] So it's quite interesting.

[00:02:50] Probably for the best, honestly.

[00:02:52] And actually, stay tuned for the miscellaneous thoughts section where we have some additional

[00:02:56] trivia from him, which was really cool.

[00:02:58] Hell yeah.

[00:02:58] But this is written by Fusai Naba, whose other works include Tao Tao, which all caps.

[00:03:05] Isn't that the bad guy from Dragon Ball?

[00:03:07] Yeah.

[00:03:07] General Tao.

[00:03:08] Yeah.

[00:03:09] Yeah.

[00:03:09] Tao Pai Pai.

[00:03:10] What if it's actually about him?

[00:03:12] It'd be dope because he was a cool character.

[00:03:14] Yeah.

[00:03:14] He was.

[00:03:15] It's like what was written on his shirt?

[00:03:17] Kill.

[00:03:18] It was like kill or death or something.

[00:03:20] Yeah.

[00:03:20] It was definitely something really stupid was written on the back of his shirt.

[00:03:24] Yeah.

[00:03:24] Yeah.

[00:03:24] So Tao Tao went 2017 three chapters jump gigas.

[00:03:30] It's just kind of a short series.

[00:03:31] Next, this guy did Harakiri Gomen 2024 chapters weekly shonen jump, which is a short series

[00:03:38] exclusive to the Japanese digital version of weekly shonen jump.

[00:03:43] So you can't find that on the app.

[00:03:44] Great.

[00:03:44] I love knowing that that's a thing.

[00:03:46] I mean, of course it is like they only have up to part six of Jojo on the fucking.

[00:03:51] Well, they just announced part seven's coming out.

[00:03:53] But still, they have all the manga.

[00:03:55] They have all the series, David.

[00:03:58] Yeah.

[00:03:58] You want to share some?

[00:03:59] Like they have all of Hunter Hunter and that anime hasn't continued.

[00:04:04] But like, no, they can't bring over the seventh and eighth and I guess ninth parts of

[00:04:09] Jojo officially until the anime is coming out.

[00:04:11] Well, this one was part 10.

[00:04:13] So it worked out.

[00:04:13] This one?

[00:04:14] Yeah.

[00:04:14] Because that's fucking stands in it.

[00:04:16] Oh, God.

[00:04:17] Anyway, another series that this guy wrote.

[00:04:19] Oh, it's called Aliens Arena.

[00:04:22] No, it's Aliens Area.

[00:04:24] But like as everybody who's listened to this show for a little bit knows, we have always

[00:04:30] accidentally called it Aliens Arena, aka Aliens Arena 64.

[00:04:34] Which was also featured in the cover art of this.

[00:04:38] Yeah.

[00:04:38] That went for three volumes in 2022 Weekly Shown and Jump.

[00:04:42] And yeah, it's weird that like it shouldn't be a series that's difficult to say.

[00:04:48] But like, I don't know.

[00:04:50] I still call it Aliens Arena.

[00:04:51] Partly because it's a better title.

[00:04:53] Yeah.

[00:04:53] It's definitely a more interesting title.

[00:04:55] Yato, have you read that series?

[00:04:56] I want to say I read the whole thing.

[00:04:57] And I was actually very surprised to see that there was a complication with the name.

[00:05:02] For some reason, we're just unable to call it Aliens Area.

[00:05:05] It's a thing.

[00:05:06] But yeah, we're not talking about that shit.

[00:05:08] We're talking about this shit, which is Kyoto Necromancer.

[00:05:11] And it ran from April 21st, 2024 to September 1st, 2024.

[00:05:15] That is right.

[00:05:16] 18 chapters.

[00:05:17] This is U19, baby.

[00:05:19] This series replaced Two on Ice by Ike Itzenba, which was our last episode, David.

[00:05:25] Episode 113.

[00:05:27] And it was replaced by Ichi the Witch by Osamu Nishi and Shiro Usazaki.

[00:05:32] It's over one volume at this point.

[00:05:35] It seems like it's doing pretty good so far, but it's too early to tell.

[00:05:38] Series started at the same time as it was Astro Royale by Ken Wakui.

[00:05:42] Two plus volumes is apparently doing all right.

[00:05:44] And Psych House by Omusuke Kobayashi, which went for two volumes and is our next episode.

[00:05:51] By the way, Sean from Anime Out of Context messaged me and was like,

[00:05:54] Hey man, Ichi the Witch looks like shit.

[00:05:56] I just wanted you to know.

[00:05:57] Ooh.

[00:05:58] Just no prior conversation.

[00:06:00] He just dropped me that message.

[00:06:02] And that was Sean, not Remington.

[00:06:03] Nah, well, Rem doesn't read manga unless we force him to.

[00:06:06] Exactly.

[00:06:06] Yado, for context, Remington hates anime.

[00:06:09] Okay.

[00:06:10] He hates most things.

[00:06:11] Yeah, and Sean likes anime.

[00:06:13] So for Sean to say that that's bad, carries significantly more weight.

[00:06:17] I also want to say all our Anime Out of Context listeners continue to petition them to cover

[00:06:21] Apothecary Diaries because I thought they did.

[00:06:24] And I need to fix whatever timeline I got jumped from.

[00:06:26] Thank you.

[00:06:27] David's trapped in the Mandela.

[00:06:28] Yes.

[00:06:29] I swear to God they had covered that series on their podcast and it's really freaking me

[00:06:32] out.

[00:06:32] They never did.

[00:06:33] Anyway, let's get into about the manga.

[00:06:35] Since his father, Itsuki Dad, Kaoru Uno has lived with his grandma.

[00:06:40] One day, when she falls, he sees a bunch of little spiky boys hovering around her, but

[00:06:45] she seems okay.

[00:06:46] When he gets to school, he meets Yoji Amane, a famous author and a friend of his dad's who's

[00:06:51] here to pick him up.

[00:06:52] Yoji tells him that these spirits called Shiryu are walking around causing shit.

[00:06:56] Kaoru has a flashback to when his dad gave him a cool ring and tells him not to forget

[00:07:01] about Shiryu, even though he clearly already did.

[00:07:04] Just then, his grandma happens to be walking by and is taken over by Shiryu.

[00:07:07] Kaoru fights it and awakens his own Shiryu named Shishi, which is just shitty star platinum.

[00:07:13] Yoji shows up and destroys it with his Shiryu, Chitauri, who eats its soul.

[00:07:18] Yoji says that this power makes them necromancers because I don't think the author had googled

[00:07:22] that term yet.

[00:07:23] Yoji takes Kaoru to get his license and a bunch of bureaucratic bullshit happens with

[00:07:28] shitty society.

[00:07:29] And like, do you really care?

[00:07:31] Popcorn myself.

[00:07:32] Kaoru tests out his power with a magic beach ball and it turns out he's like super strong.

[00:07:37] Their goal at this point is to eventually take down Ryu, who killed Kaoru's dad, who was

[00:07:43] also Yoji's partner.

[00:07:44] They defeat a Shiryu at a school and one of the teachers was a friend of Kaoru's dad

[00:07:49] and brings her super smart niece Midori over to teach Kaoru how to do things with his Shiryu.

[00:07:55] Then Kaoru talks to a friend who's like, yo, Midori is like really smart and hot.

[00:08:00] And then the next page, Midori is training Kaoru and it's like, wow, she's really smart

[00:08:05] and hot.

[00:08:05] In the middle of teaching, an assassin suddenly shows up, hurts Midori and kidnaps Kaoru.

[00:08:10] Yoji gets mad and has his friend Manson go with him to get him back.

[00:08:15] When Kaoru wakes up, he finds that he's sitting across from Ryu, who hands him a business card

[00:08:19] with his name on it.

[00:08:20] Ryu says he's Yoji's brother and ties Kaoru up in like a cocoon thing or something.

[00:08:25] You know, like he says that he used to love Kaoru's mom until she died in a science experiment.

[00:08:30] Oh no.

[00:08:31] Ryu implies he wants to commit the ultimate sin of necromancy and justice by bringing her

[00:08:37] back.

[00:08:38] That's the eighth though.

[00:08:38] By bringing her back to life because the author finally read the Wikipedia page for Necromancer.

[00:08:44] Yoji shows up and releases Kaoru who is rescued by Manson and a necromancer named Tereshima

[00:08:49] who hasn't mattered until now.

[00:08:51] So I haven't mentioned her.

[00:08:52] Manson tries to run away until Kaoru says it's lame and Tereshima heals Kaoru allowing him to

[00:08:58] go fight Ryu because like I guess they don't really care that much if he dies.

[00:09:01] Popcorn David.

[00:09:02] Ryu and Yoji fight until Kaoru shows up fused with Shishi and Ryu says that doing so makes

[00:09:07] him stronger, which the reader never would have guessed.

[00:09:09] Kaoru fights into a standstill before dropping dead in front of him.

[00:09:12] Ryu tells Yoji that actually bringing back Kaoru's mom won't do enough.

[00:09:16] So instead he wants to harness the power of internet trolls to make everyone sad aka people

[00:09:20] who read the series.

[00:09:22] Instead, Ryu tells Yoji to use him as a sacrifice to bring Kaoru back, forcing him to commit the

[00:09:27] worst in ever.

[00:09:27] Justice as Jordan had said.

[00:09:29] Yoji says that actually doing things that make him feel bad makes him feel good.

[00:09:32] Actually, and Peru wakes up to find Shitauri carrying him away with Yoji nowhere in sight.

[00:09:37] Three months pass and a girl.

[00:09:39] Oh God, this part is fucking ridiculous.

[00:09:40] That's amazing.

[00:09:41] All the fucking six word summaries about this.

[00:09:43] Three months pass and a girl who looks identical to Shitauri shows up at Kaoru's school.

[00:09:47] She uses her power to steal his cell phone service and says that she's actually a mystical

[00:09:51] being.

[00:09:51] Her brothers invented Shuru to destroy the humans, but she didn't want to do that because she fell

[00:09:55] in love with Kaoru's great great grandpa.

[00:09:57] She tells him that she stole his grandma's soul and she'll only give it back if he marries

[00:10:01] her.

[00:10:01] Also, someone finally reaches Yoji on the phone and it seems like he's okay.

[00:10:05] Yay.

[00:10:05] So that sacrifice had zero consequences.

[00:10:08] It's fine.

[00:10:08] Don't worry about it.

[00:10:09] It was just like, whatever.

[00:10:10] Yeah.

[00:10:11] Bringing up more questions than answers.

[00:10:13] This really reminds me of fuck.

[00:10:14] What was the one with the dude who had a squirrel that turned into a gun?

[00:10:18] Oh, Takamagihara.

[00:10:19] Yeah.

[00:10:20] Where it's like there's like gender changing powers or something and it's just not explained

[00:10:23] at the very end.

[00:10:24] Yeah.

[00:10:25] I could have looked up the name of the series or I could have described it as the guy who

[00:10:28] has a squirrel that turns into a gun, which is the best part of that series.

[00:10:31] I was.

[00:10:31] Yeah.

[00:10:32] I was like, I don't know.

[00:10:33] Can I just jump in and be like, what the fuck is that?

[00:10:34] Objectively the best part.

[00:10:36] Let's get into some fun rock facts because it is the season to watch over the garden

[00:10:40] wall.

[00:10:40] Oh, that should have been my wreck.

[00:10:41] Rock and roll.

[00:10:42] For talking about the characters.

[00:10:44] So Yato, can you tell us about the main character?

[00:10:46] And those are my notes.

[00:10:47] You're welcome to read them, but you don't have to.

[00:10:49] Okay.

[00:10:49] Yeah.

[00:10:49] I guess I'll, uh, you know, take a look at them.

[00:10:51] So, uh, putting his reading glasses on.

[00:10:53] Let me peruse.

[00:10:55] Yeah.

[00:10:55] Main character.

[00:10:56] Uh, you know, I still just don't know how this name is supposed to be sick.

[00:10:59] Kyoru.

[00:11:00] Kauru Uno.

[00:11:01] Pretty sure it's Kauru Uno.

[00:11:03] Kauru Uno.

[00:11:04] Okay.

[00:11:05] Oh, that could have been his evil twin brothers for first Uno.

[00:11:08] Kauru Dos.

[00:11:09] Yeah.

[00:11:10] Oh man.

[00:11:10] Dos.

[00:11:12] He's a guy who, uh, you know, apparently does it.

[00:11:15] He is veggies because he's, uh, he's tough like that.

[00:11:17] And he's a kid and, uh, he lives with his grandma who I love his grandma.

[00:11:19] She was a great old lady.

[00:11:20] She was cute.

[00:11:21] Yeah.

[00:11:21] One of my favorite parts, but, uh, you know, he's, he's a kid.

[00:11:24] He's in school.

[00:11:25] So he does, you know, cool things.

[00:11:26] It's a shonen manga.

[00:11:27] So it's, you know, the main character is a kid and, uh, he's, he's got to find a

[00:11:30] pepidest step.

[00:11:30] He's, you know, trying to figure, figure out his way, trying to figure out where he

[00:11:33] belongs in this world.

[00:11:34] I just realized I forgot the part where, um, after his dad dies, his evil aunt and her

[00:11:41] husband were like, Hey, we got to take this Kauru guy.

[00:11:45] And then we're going to steal the land here and sell it.

[00:11:49] And then his grandma's like, Oh yeah.

[00:11:52] No, I mean, I love my grandson and I'm going to keep watch over him.

[00:11:57] Also his grandma is pretty dope.

[00:11:59] It's not even like she's got any supernatural power.

[00:12:00] She was just a really, really hardworking lady that wanted to give him a good life.

[00:12:03] She was just a sweet old lady.

[00:12:05] That's the whole thing.

[00:12:06] That's her whole character.

[00:12:07] Yeah.

[00:12:07] The trope of badass grandmas.

[00:12:09] I feel after Don and Don just kind of like finished the trope off.

[00:12:12] Yeah.

[00:12:13] So it's just like not been a fun thing to see anymore.

[00:12:16] Sweet grandmas are nice.

[00:12:17] You know, it's a sweet old lady.

[00:12:18] Nothing wrong with that.

[00:12:19] And then Jordan, can you tell us about our, our fucking golf man?

[00:12:22] So Yoji Amene, uh, I hate him.

[00:12:25] He's so fucking annoying.

[00:12:26] It's like, imagine if he had died at then you would have been so happy.

[00:12:29] I would have been fine.

[00:12:30] He's just like, dude, he's so cool.

[00:12:32] Yo, he is so fucking cool and so strong.

[00:12:35] And like, man, he's also like really smart and like poetic and he uses big words.

[00:12:41] And it's like, it's the big brother character I talk about.

[00:12:44] Like, um, Aliens area had a character, literally had this guy.

[00:12:48] This is the same character.

[00:12:50] Was it the main character?

[00:12:51] The guy with the cane?

[00:12:52] Yeah.

[00:12:52] The guy with the cane.

[00:12:53] Yeah.

[00:12:53] Same thing where it's like, there are these characters where it's like,

[00:12:56] he's weird in the most normal way possible.

[00:13:00] Yeah.

[00:13:00] He's weird in a way that is just completely not weird and uninteresting.

[00:13:05] And it's like, I talk a lot about this big brother trope where it's like, there's a character

[00:13:09] who just shows up and like the main character is like, man, this is like such a big brother

[00:13:14] figure.

[00:13:14] And the character like loves the main character for no fucking reason.

[00:13:18] And like really looks after him.

[00:13:20] It reminds me, a lot of the writing in this reminded me of Tokyo Shinobi Squad.

[00:13:24] Yeah.

[00:13:24] Not racist like Tokyo Shinobi Squad.

[00:13:27] Good.

[00:13:27] But yeah, that was racist.

[00:13:28] I didn't finish it.

[00:13:29] That series is racist.

[00:13:31] Racist from chapter one.

[00:13:33] Yeah.

[00:13:33] Okay.

[00:13:33] I remember that.

[00:13:34] I have to look back.

[00:13:35] Yeah.

[00:13:35] I will wrap things up.

[00:13:37] Yeah.

[00:13:37] There's not much more to say about Yochi that Jordan hasn't said.

[00:13:39] Doesn't die at the end.

[00:13:40] He's big.

[00:13:41] Society bottom text.

[00:13:42] He likes to say big words, which is really stupid.

[00:13:44] I guess it was really cute that he's first and like last word is that special vocabulary

[00:13:48] word he's obsessed with.

[00:13:49] His big word is melancholy.

[00:13:51] Yeah.

[00:13:52] Which I'm pretty sure the average sixth grader has heard of.

[00:13:54] It's not that big a fucking word.

[00:13:56] Like, I guess you could argue it's an SAT word, but it's not really like the top SAT word.

[00:14:01] I kind of wonder what the word was in Japanese.

[00:14:04] So I actually asked David Evelyn and that's one of the pieces of trivia and that's what

[00:14:08] inspired me to talk to him.

[00:14:09] And he said it literally, he says the Japanese version of the word melancholy.

[00:14:12] Wow.

[00:14:13] That was a direct translation.

[00:14:14] Oh my God.

[00:14:15] Man, like he's just so cool, David.

[00:14:18] And he's so strong and like, damn.

[00:14:20] He was my dad.

[00:14:22] God, seriously.

[00:14:24] And speaking of dads, let's talk about Ryuji, the big bad who killed the main character's

[00:14:27] dad.

[00:14:28] He's sad about the main character's mom and he is the legend of the five rings.

[00:14:33] Another thing is they were like, oh man, he's got five Shiryu inside him.

[00:14:38] Whoa, five Shiryu.

[00:14:39] But they all fuse together.

[00:14:41] And so it's like.

[00:14:42] So it doesn't matter.

[00:14:42] Yeah.

[00:14:43] So it doesn't matter.

[00:14:44] It's like, damn, you could have had like some kind of Sensui Shinobu thing from like

[00:14:48] Yu Yu Hakusho where it's like he has different personalities or something.

[00:14:51] That would have been way better.

[00:14:52] That would have been better.

[00:14:53] It would have been fucking something.

[00:14:55] Yeah.

[00:14:55] Not enough series are ripping off Yu Yu Hakusho.

[00:14:59] Yeah.

[00:14:59] And I've always said that.

[00:15:00] Honestly, though, things are so busy ripping off Hunter Hunter that I'd kind of rather

[00:15:05] they ripped off Yu Yu Hakusho at this point.

[00:15:08] Though nothing ripped off Hunter Hunter more than Metallica Matulica.

[00:15:11] Well, yeah, of course.

[00:15:12] Yaddo, this series ripped it off so much.

[00:15:14] So in our first episode, like our preview episode, my guest was just recreating the plot

[00:15:18] of Hunter Hunter.

[00:15:19] And I was 100 percent correct.

[00:15:20] Wow.

[00:15:21] That was one of the worst series.

[00:15:22] That was very bad.

[00:15:24] What was it called?

[00:15:24] Something Metallica?

[00:15:25] Metallica Matulica.

[00:15:27] Metallica.

[00:15:28] Metallica Metaluca.

[00:15:29] I don't say the names of series.

[00:15:30] I don't respect properly.

[00:15:32] But you'll see throughout this episode.

[00:15:34] It's OK.

[00:15:34] I'm just making sure somebody could Google it and find it, which I don't know.

[00:15:38] Maybe I shouldn't do that.

[00:15:39] Yeah, I did like at the start.

[00:15:41] He's like, I just want to talk.

[00:15:42] And I was like, oh, maybe this is interesting.

[00:15:43] And he even had like his soul out.

[00:15:45] And then it just falls apart.

[00:15:46] I think that the drawing they show of him like reaching towards the camera.

[00:15:51] I think that looks pretty sick.

[00:15:52] I think that's a cool drawing.

[00:15:54] He looks creepy.

[00:15:55] That was one of the coolest parts of the series.

[00:15:56] That picture where he was reaching.

[00:15:58] Yeah, that was incredible.

[00:16:00] I was like, yo, what is this?

[00:16:00] I saw that.

[00:16:01] I said, OK, maybe we're going to survive.

[00:16:02] We got like cool ass art.

[00:16:04] But, you know, it made him seem way cooler than he was.

[00:16:07] I can tell you that.

[00:16:08] Yeah, I thought he was going to be a much bigger bad guy.

[00:16:10] And he just kind of, you know, he's just simping over the main character's mom.

[00:16:13] He shows up like so fast and his desires are like so confusing.

[00:16:19] Like first he's like, I want to bring your mom back to life.

[00:16:22] And then he's like, no, actually, I want to harness internet trolls.

[00:16:26] Like literally though, right?

[00:16:27] Like that's what he said, right?

[00:16:28] Yeah.

[00:16:29] He literally started talking about internet trolls.

[00:16:31] Yeah.

[00:16:32] And he's like, I want everybody else to feel the sadness or whatever from what happened.

[00:16:36] So he's just like, what's to make everyone miserable?

[00:16:38] He's like, these internet trolls seem so miserable.

[00:16:40] I want everybody to be as miserable as them.

[00:16:43] It feels like the author got really mad at how people on the internet, like attacked him

[00:16:48] for aliens area.

[00:16:50] Yeah.

[00:16:50] Poor the Red Hood.

[00:16:51] And then speaking of attacking, why don't we get into why it failed?

[00:16:56] This is the most tell not show series we have read in a long ass time.

[00:17:01] This part where like when Ryuji and Yoji are fighting and Yoji's like, you casually take

[00:17:07] advantage of others weaknesses.

[00:17:09] And you want to like bring her back from the dead, don't you?

[00:17:12] You just don't want to admit somebody failed and died because of the result of your actions.

[00:17:17] And it's like, dude, all of that could have been subtext.

[00:17:19] Literally everything you just said could have been inferred by his actions and like dialogue

[00:17:25] that just doesn't explain it.

[00:17:27] Like bashing it over the reader's head with that.

[00:17:30] Like, oh my God, dude.

[00:17:31] Yeah.

[00:17:31] I really think that they shouldn't be so direct in how characters are feeling.

[00:17:36] And that really makes me sad.

[00:17:37] There was never any like point where you like are left to wonder, you know, after before

[00:17:41] we actually beat the guy, it's like, okay, you know, what's his deal?

[00:17:44] He looks cool as hell.

[00:17:44] But like, once he actually beat him, you just really know everything about him.

[00:17:47] It's like, this is kind of lame.

[00:17:48] Yeah.

[00:17:49] They also introduce characters that literally exist for like two chapters and they don't let

[00:17:52] any of these characters bake.

[00:17:54] No.

[00:17:54] You know, like I don't, the girl who trains him shows up out of nowhere, trains him for

[00:17:57] like one of the shittiest training arcs I've ever seen and then disappears.

[00:18:01] The training five pages.

[00:18:03] Yeah.

[00:18:04] I was like, well, I guess it was short, but what was the point of that?

[00:18:06] Lift this rock dummy.

[00:18:08] Yeah, literally.

[00:18:09] She also hits a guy with a 200 kilogram rock and somehow that doesn't just instantly kill

[00:18:14] him.

[00:18:14] Yeah.

[00:18:15] That sort of blew his head to pieces.

[00:18:17] He brushes that off.

[00:18:18] What I think is a normal person.

[00:18:20] The assassin guy.

[00:18:21] I don't know.

[00:18:21] Like that dude should have just died when she did that.

[00:18:25] Yeah.

[00:18:25] That shit was heavy as hell.

[00:18:26] Also, I do love how it's like the assassin guy takes out Midori and he's like, how could

[00:18:31] you take out somebody so innocent?

[00:18:34] It's like, now hold on.

[00:18:35] She was an enemy combatant.

[00:18:37] Okay.

[00:18:37] She was a member of the enemy faction and she was a powerful necromancer who was fighting

[00:18:43] him.

[00:18:43] All right.

[00:18:43] You could be sad that she got hurt, but like she wasn't just some innocent bystander.

[00:18:48] Like what?

[00:18:49] She wasn't grandma.

[00:18:50] She wasn't grandma.

[00:18:52] There wasn't enough grandma.

[00:18:53] Yeah.

[00:18:54] Grandma needed more screen time and she did not get enough.

[00:18:57] Grandma's not on screen.

[00:18:58] Yeah.

[00:18:59] Got that poochie joke.

[00:19:00] Let me help you out of your chair, grandma.

[00:19:02] And then Yado, are there any issues you have in the series that we haven't brought up

[00:19:05] yet?

[00:19:05] The whole melancholy thing just kept happening.

[00:19:08] You know, every character like Ryuji and was the other guy, Yoji.

[00:19:13] They just kept doing the whole like the series starts with, you know, I just want to use

[00:19:16] the word melancholy.

[00:19:17] And then in the end, his brother's just beating that shit into him.

[00:19:20] He's like, you're going to feel melancholic for the rest of your life.

[00:19:22] And I'm like, all right, guys, I get that you know this word, but you don't have to use

[00:19:26] it every chance you get.

[00:19:27] Listen, I paid the $10 for the dictionary.

[00:19:29] I'm going to use it.

[00:19:30] I don't know why anybody did what they were doing in this.

[00:19:35] Yeah.

[00:19:35] I feel like with the melancholy, it was like this dude was like, I don't have a good idea,

[00:19:39] but let's pretend we're Bleach and make the like sense of coolness override any issues.

[00:19:43] Because let's be real, Bleach got a lot of mileage out of just how cool everything about

[00:19:47] that series was.

[00:19:48] Oh, yeah.

[00:19:49] Yeah.

[00:19:49] But it was also legitimately cool.

[00:19:51] Very well drawn.

[00:19:52] Yeah.

[00:19:52] This art is not bad, but it's like you got to be at Bleach's level if you want to get

[00:19:56] away with it.

[00:19:57] Yeah.

[00:19:57] I feel like a lot of the times he made it a point to like in the chapter with a character

[00:20:01] looking cool and saying something cool.

[00:20:02] So they would go on like a t-shirt that you would see in Hot Topic or something a lot in

[00:20:05] Bleach.

[00:20:06] I'm just imagining like they just have a chapter that's bullshit and they go grocery shopping

[00:20:11] and the guy like trips and lands really cool and then is like antediluvian.

[00:20:17] One other thing that just always strikes me when I'm reading the series is going to get

[00:20:21] asked like this is like when the main villain shows up super early, it's like, you know,

[00:20:25] it always automatically puts a thought like, OK, this this shit is heading towards the

[00:20:28] axe.

[00:20:28] But like some stories do it.

[00:20:30] You know, they recover like Demon Slayer.

[00:20:31] You know, Muzan showed up in like episode chapter 12 and it's like, OK, is this going

[00:20:35] to get accident?

[00:20:36] It is not.

[00:20:36] But then, you know, the main character here, Kaoru gets kidnapped and it's like, OK, yeah,

[00:20:40] we're going in eight chapters.

[00:20:42] It isn't always a bad idea to introduce the main bad guy early to like start building up

[00:20:46] like kind of fear where it's like, oh, man, he's out there.

[00:20:49] He's watching.

[00:20:50] It doesn't work here at all.

[00:20:51] Yeah.

[00:20:52] Also, like one of the big issues I have with this series was that like the villains would

[00:20:56] just show up and attack with like absolutely no buildup or anything like they have no motivation,

[00:21:01] no motivation at all.

[00:21:02] Like, you know, the first time we see a Shereo, it's just, oh, hey, grandma.

[00:21:06] Oh, my God, grandma.

[00:21:08] What are those bugs?

[00:21:09] Whoa, grandma.

[00:21:11] Wow.

[00:21:11] This that's this is very convenient.

[00:21:13] We were just talking about this.

[00:21:14] Yeah.

[00:21:14] Or it's like they go to a school and then like, whoa, there's Shereo here.

[00:21:18] What?

[00:21:19] And they're just like random.

[00:21:21] They're not connected to anything else or like they're training Midori and like fucking

[00:21:26] Kaoru are like training.

[00:21:27] And then a Shereo shows.

[00:21:28] I was like, whoa, it's a Shereo over there.

[00:21:30] What a coincidence.

[00:21:31] We were just training.

[00:21:32] It was like they should have shown up more with, you know, how convenient they started

[00:21:35] showing up in those cases.

[00:21:36] Like, why are they not everywhere?

[00:21:37] I also love there was one moment where they're on like Ryuji's like boat, which is like his

[00:21:43] compound kind of.

[00:21:45] And they're they're fighting against this group.

[00:21:47] And one of them is just an enemy necromancer.

[00:21:49] And they're like, it's an enemy necromancer.

[00:21:51] And it's just like this generic brand necromancer.

[00:21:54] And it's like, that's it.

[00:21:55] It's like he's not like a specific guy.

[00:21:58] He's not somebody you might have known.

[00:22:00] There's nothing interesting about him.

[00:22:01] He's just a dude in like a somewhat interesting looking cloak.

[00:22:05] That's it.

[00:22:06] Yeah.

[00:22:06] And they they don't feel like necromancers either.

[00:22:09] I get their like kind of spirits, but they don't feel like revived humans.

[00:22:12] This isn't like Shaman King, where I feel like this is someone who died.

[00:22:14] I genuinely feel like the author doesn't know what a necromancer is.

[00:22:18] I think that's true.

[00:22:19] You just saw the word and was like people like necromancers.

[00:22:21] I'm going to do some kind of spirity shit and call them necromancers.

[00:22:24] Yeah.

[00:22:24] I mean, it's also because there's no world building until the last chapter.

[00:22:27] We'll talk about the positives with those dudes at the last chapter look pretty dope.

[00:22:29] But like, why were why was this shit not spread out throughout the series?

[00:22:36] To a good point, which is we haven't talked about the last chapter yet.

[00:22:39] Really?

[00:22:40] Yeah, I was waiting for that.

[00:22:41] We really need to talk about the last chapter.

[00:22:44] Yaddo, how did you feel about that last chapter?

[00:22:46] Kind of like erased it from my mind.

[00:22:48] That was the shit where the Chitauri looking Shiryu showed up and is like,

[00:22:52] you know, I cursed your family because I loved your granddad or something.

[00:22:57] She was like jealous of sweet old grandma.

[00:22:59] And so like.

[00:23:00] Yeah, great grandma.

[00:23:01] Yeah.

[00:23:02] That was so stupid.

[00:23:03] It's like, why are we marrying the main character and do they get married?

[00:23:07] I don't like that.

[00:23:08] That was so stupid.

[00:23:08] How old's the main character?

[00:23:10] Like 15?

[00:23:11] Like Shonen.

[00:23:12] So he's in high school.

[00:23:13] Yeah.

[00:23:13] He's got to be like 15, 16.

[00:23:15] I mean, it's just like, oh, here's the necromancer.

[00:23:18] Yeah.

[00:23:18] Okay.

[00:23:19] Like it's it's just like we're doing this now.

[00:23:23] Is he hitting that?

[00:23:24] Yeah.

[00:23:24] Just I don't understand.

[00:23:26] And even he is like, well, see you later.

[00:23:28] Like, that's it.

[00:23:30] Bye.

[00:23:31] And it's like, wait, now this this suddenly in the final chapter turned into a completely

[00:23:36] different manga for like two pages.

[00:23:38] It's a completely different manga.

[00:23:41] Yeah, it was it was super out of left field.

[00:23:43] And she just asked the main character to marry her.

[00:23:45] Yeah.

[00:23:46] She shows up out of nowhere.

[00:23:48] No clue who she is.

[00:23:50] It's so stupid.

[00:23:51] That was very dumb.

[00:23:52] I wish like I honestly just wish it would have like ended like without that chapter at

[00:23:56] all, it would have felt better because that shit was just super random as hell.

[00:23:59] It was kind of honestly my favorite part of the series because it wasn't the most generic

[00:24:04] fucking thing I've ever read in my whole life.

[00:24:07] That's it.

[00:24:08] Like it's an ending we'll remember much like Stealth Symphony.

[00:24:11] Like it was bad to be clear.

[00:24:13] It was not good, but it's better than being mediocre.

[00:24:16] It's better than just being completely unmemorable.

[00:24:19] I feel like this series wasted my time so much.

[00:24:24] Like I was annoyed after reading this.

[00:24:27] Yeah, I agree.

[00:24:28] I was annoyed.

[00:24:28] I was just like, what the hell is this?

[00:24:29] And what did I agree to?

[00:24:31] Yeah, but I do think we have to agree that there are some positives.

[00:24:35] So why don't we get into that?

[00:24:36] And so though, before we get into what we think it did well, if you've been enjoying

[00:24:39] the show, we'd really appreciate if you subscribe to the Shonen Flop YouTube.

[00:24:42] We're trying to hit our goal of 1500 YouTube subscribers.

[00:24:44] And if we hit it, we'll do a special bonus episode on the Bill King Epilogue right now.

[00:24:48] I think we're almost at 1400.

[00:24:50] And if you already subscribed, thank you so much.

[00:24:52] So Yato, take it away.

[00:24:53] What were some positives that you felt about the series?

[00:24:55] Positives?

[00:24:56] I feel like the strongest point was really just the art, man.

[00:24:59] Like in that one page where they showed Ryuji or whatever in that photograph, he looks super

[00:25:03] cool.

[00:25:04] And there was like the water texture, like so cool.

[00:25:06] Yeah, there's like water droplets falling or something.

[00:25:08] He had like a water ability, right?

[00:25:09] He had like five abilities.

[00:25:11] I don't I don't know.

[00:25:13] I don't fucking he just was a punch ghost for most of it.

[00:25:16] Yeah.

[00:25:16] Honestly, don't ask me for any information on what happens in this series.

[00:25:21] One of them was water related.

[00:25:22] And in that photograph, he had like water drops around him or something.

[00:25:25] It looked cool.

[00:25:26] And then like in that first chapter, when Yoji shows up and he cuts the one Shuryo that's

[00:25:32] like attacking grandma or whatever, it looks it looks really cool where they do like this

[00:25:35] weird camera lens trick thing where like, yeah, part of the Shuryo is in focus and then

[00:25:40] it's not.

[00:25:41] And then like it's all chopped up and then Yoji's there and everything else is out of focus.

[00:25:44] So the art was cool at times.

[00:25:46] I want to talk about that because this author uses like CG in a way that I've never seen

[00:25:52] in a Shonen manga where it's like that blur filter.

[00:25:56] It was really effective in a lot of places.

[00:25:58] Yeah.

[00:25:58] Like to convey depth, like even in that cool picture of Ryuji, like his hand, like the hand,

[00:26:03] there's a hand that's clearly reaching towards the camera and that's blurred out and that's

[00:26:07] really effective.

[00:26:08] That's something I could see Fujimoto doing.

[00:26:10] Yeah.

[00:26:10] Actually, he did.

[00:26:11] Yeah.

[00:26:11] He did that weird outside shot.

[00:26:13] Remember?

[00:26:13] I would honestly much rather that authors did that than do the thing where it's like

[00:26:18] there's an arm in motion and they just kind of roughly like scribble lines around it to

[00:26:23] like make it seem like it's in motion.

[00:26:25] I think this would be better.

[00:26:26] But also like there's this weird smoke effect that shows up sometimes.

[00:26:30] Yeah.

[00:26:30] I thought that was cool.

[00:26:31] Like it again, like the author is clearly like experimenting with the art in a way that

[00:26:36] he is absolutely not experimenting even remotely with the plot.

[00:26:39] Yeah.

[00:26:40] The art is good.

[00:26:40] The painting is good.

[00:26:41] It's definitely like we had no issues with the art with Aliens Arena.

[00:26:45] Sorry.

[00:26:46] Area.

[00:26:48] Is this real?

[00:26:49] Anti-establishment.

[00:26:50] But yeah, I mean, that's that was good.

[00:26:52] It was just like, yeah.

[00:26:53] I also think how is nice that the stands at least have a little bit of personality, not

[00:26:57] a ton, but it's something.

[00:26:59] Did they though?

[00:27:00] I mean, they talked, but did they have personality?

[00:27:03] I don't know.

[00:27:04] Chitauri a little bit, I guess.

[00:27:06] A little bit.

[00:27:07] They were hungry.

[00:27:08] Yeah.

[00:27:08] Okay.

[00:27:09] They like to eat.

[00:27:10] Yes.

[00:27:10] I like, I like Chitauri.

[00:27:11] You know, other than Chitauri's alright.

[00:27:13] I like when she turned big, you know, because otherwise it's like, okay, I feel kind of weird

[00:27:17] because it's like, is this thing a little, like it's supposed to be a little girl or whatever,

[00:27:20] but like when it turns big, it's like really big and it's like breasts were like out.

[00:27:23] And I'm like, okay, what's, what's really happening?

[00:27:25] Yeah.

[00:27:25] Okay.

[00:27:25] Okay.

[00:27:25] This is interesting.

[00:27:26] A giant woman with big breasts.

[00:27:28] Yeah.

[00:27:28] All right.

[00:27:29] You've drawn my attention.

[00:27:30] Never seen that in manga before.

[00:27:32] Yeah, never.

[00:27:33] I'm here for it.

[00:27:34] But you know, I was like, I don't know.

[00:27:35] Should I be?

[00:27:36] And I mean, what was the Shishi, the main characters, Shiryu?

[00:27:40] I mean, he was kind of cool, but he was just always like, he wasn't really saying anything

[00:27:44] until he needed to.

[00:27:45] And he never like, it wasn't like a demon possession, you know, turned wrong.

[00:27:49] It was like, uh, it kind of felt like a Ushio and Tora situation.

[00:27:52] Um, at some points where like they would merge or some shit.

[00:27:55] They did an Ushio and Tora, right?

[00:27:56] I don't know Ushio and Tora.

[00:27:57] Yeah.

[00:27:58] I mean, that makes sense.

[00:27:59] It was good.

[00:27:59] I think, I think they merged in that, but, uh, you know, the, the art was great.

[00:28:03] And, uh, the, the fights were okay sometimes when it wasn't like, when it wasn't something

[00:28:07] just stupid, like the guy having the five rings and none of it mattering.

[00:28:10] Like that could have, that could have went some way.

[00:28:12] He could have five completely different powers or five different personalities or something.

[00:28:16] But it was just points where it was like, okay, what are we, what are we really

[00:28:18] doing?

[00:28:18] And why does this matter?

[00:28:19] I liked some of the designs.

[00:28:21] I did.

[00:28:21] I think Chitauri had a fun design.

[00:28:23] I liked Chitauri's design.

[00:28:24] I agree.

[00:28:25] Which is why he used it twice.

[00:28:26] So that's true.

[00:28:27] He was just like, no, I'm not done.

[00:28:29] I've got more Chitauri in me.

[00:28:31] We didn't see Shuryo from any other, like, well, yeah, we did.

[00:28:33] We saw Marilyn Manson's, uh, fucking, uh, that guy.

[00:28:37] I liked that guy, but he was, uh, he was just in love with the one chick and it was

[00:28:40] like a, just an ongoing joke and he didn't get used that much.

[00:28:42] But like we saw his Shuryo, I think it was like a flamethrower or something.

[00:28:45] Damn, what a nice guy.

[00:28:47] All these characters are like such nice people.

[00:28:49] They're so nice, man.

[00:28:51] There's so little conflict between them.

[00:28:53] They're just so chill to each other.

[00:28:55] There's no consequences, but they care so much.

[00:28:59] Wait, wait, we have to stay positive.

[00:29:00] We have to stay positive.

[00:29:01] Okay.

[00:29:01] They weren't very welcoming to the main character at first though, right?

[00:29:04] When he first came in, they're like, you know, this, you know, we don't want him here or something,

[00:29:07] but then they realized that he was kind of like tight and they was like, all right, you

[00:29:09] know, we'll stick with you.

[00:29:11] Did they not?

[00:29:11] I feel like they didn't want him for five seconds.

[00:29:14] Yeah.

[00:29:14] It didn't last long.

[00:29:15] I don't even, I, oh God damn.

[00:29:18] All right.

[00:29:18] I will say also the offer actually at basin area that wasn't even on purpose.

[00:29:23] I gave up anyway in his previous series, AA, he had a really great moment where it was

[00:29:31] really stupid because he reckoned it where the bad guy, he's like, let's just sit and

[00:29:34] talk.

[00:29:34] But the main character was like, I can't beat you physically, but let's talk about it.

[00:29:37] And I actually think that's kind of a strength of the offer is he's really good at making

[00:29:40] character motivation seem interesting.

[00:29:42] So I do like how the main villain was like, let's just sit and talk about my plan and see

[00:29:46] what you think about it and he definitely didn't go with it.

[00:29:49] And we'll talk about that and where it could have gone, but at least he had the seeds of

[00:29:51] saying, Hey, what if we made an action series where sometimes issues are diffused through

[00:29:55] conversation?

[00:29:56] And I think that's just a cool idea that I wish I'd seen more of.

[00:29:59] I thought it was interesting and kind of threatening how, how the main villain handed the main

[00:30:03] character is soul to like eat.

[00:30:04] Then of course it turns out it was a bluff because the main character is easy.

[00:30:07] It's like, ah, you thought I'd actually give you, give you my soul.

[00:30:09] And it's like, well now that's less interesting.

[00:30:11] Okay.

[00:30:12] Sorry.

[00:30:12] Positive section.

[00:30:13] Yeah.

[00:30:13] Do you have anything, any other positives Yato?

[00:30:15] I think, uh, you know, grandma, she was positive.

[00:30:18] Yeah.

[00:30:19] Grandma.

[00:30:19] Great.

[00:30:19] Love grandma.

[00:30:20] Yeah.

[00:30:21] All right.

[00:30:21] So on that high note, let's get into where it could have gone.

[00:30:24] So I think this actually could have been a really cool series of during that sit down

[00:30:27] dinner.

[00:30:28] He was like, Hey, I'm going to try and bring your mom back to life.

[00:30:30] And the main character just went, Oh, okay, bet.

[00:30:32] Let's do it.

[00:30:33] Like imagine how insanely cool that would have been if the main character, if that, and it

[00:30:38] just completely did a 180 on the plot of the series.

[00:30:40] It would have done something like it would have made it at least more, would have been

[00:30:44] interesting.

[00:30:44] Yeah.

[00:30:45] And you know, or like if like assuming this series hadn't, you know, in a world where

[00:30:48] it didn't get axed, maybe like this, this conflict could have been resolved some other way.

[00:30:52] Like maybe he's like, you know, ma ha ha, you know, I'll see you again later.

[00:30:55] And he leaves like some actual named sorcerers who aren't just called like, you know, shinobi

[00:30:59] sorcerer or whatever to, to fight.

[00:31:01] If there was some other guys to like back them up that had names and stuff.

[00:31:03] And maybe, you know, he, he just showed up to rack the main character's brain and see

[00:31:07] what he thought about his plan.

[00:31:08] And then he fucks off to go do something else.

[00:31:10] I think it would have, it would have given it a lot more like room to breathe and given

[00:31:13] the story, you know, some legs to stand on.

[00:31:15] Yeah.

[00:31:16] I just keep thinking about how I needed this author to just delete half of the internal

[00:31:20] monologue.

[00:31:21] But it didn't feel like there was too much text like on Tuan Ice, but a lot of the text

[00:31:25] just didn't matter.

[00:31:26] Yes, that's the thing.

[00:31:27] It wasn't too much.

[00:31:28] It was just, just completely redundant text.

[00:31:31] Oh my God.

[00:31:31] I have to talk about my favorite stupid moment in the series, which is where they're talking

[00:31:38] about why, how Ryuji was able to beat Kaoru's dad.

[00:31:42] And he's like, you were only able to take him down because he wasn't prepared.

[00:31:45] And he, he says the line, you knew that he was rushing to settle matters.

[00:31:50] Didn't you next panel next text bubble?

[00:31:53] This it's now a flashback where Kaoru's dad says, I want to settle matters with Ryu literally

[00:32:00] just, Oh, okay.

[00:32:01] Just flashing right to that point.

[00:32:03] And that moment is really funny.

[00:32:04] His wife is like, you're really going to do that tomorrow.

[00:32:07] Don't you like want to wait to prepare?

[00:32:09] And he's like, no, I want to do it before Kaoru grows up and can remember this.

[00:32:14] And Kaoru is like an infant at this time.

[00:32:16] So it's like, dude, you can't wait like a week.

[00:32:19] So that shit was goofy as hell.

[00:32:20] I feel like it probably that flashback could have been cooler if we at least got a scene

[00:32:25] where like, we didn't get a single line of text from the mother.

[00:32:29] Like maybe if Ryuji had told the main character something that his mom said, because like nothing

[00:32:33] in there, like they never talked about her being pregnant or anything.

[00:32:36] I guess they had already had the kid and he was just young at that time.

[00:32:39] But it would have been cool if, if like the mom had told, you know, said something

[00:32:43] or she believed in something.

[00:32:44] And he was like, your mother really, you know, fucked with this research and she died for it.

[00:32:47] And I want to like make everybody pay.

[00:32:49] All we know is that she died and did like, now it's beef.

[00:32:51] And it's like, he could have, he could have hit it, hit the main character with a line that

[00:32:54] made him, you know, change the way he thought about the situation.

[00:32:57] Maybe you aren't so bad.

[00:32:58] You fucked with my mom.

[00:32:59] So tough, you know?

[00:33:00] What if it had been his mom was like the actual necromancer and was trying to bring

[00:33:04] people back from the dead.

[00:33:05] And he was using her research, right?

[00:33:06] Like the mom could have been like a villain could have been like somebody interesting.

[00:33:10] Am I crazy for thinking that the timeline in this series makes no fucking sense?

[00:33:14] No, you're, you're completely right.

[00:33:15] Like, okay.

[00:33:16] So this panel, we're seeing the mom hold Kaoru as an infant talking to the dad.

[00:33:21] And it's, it's like, he's going to fight Ryuji tomorrow and he's going to like Ryuji

[00:33:25] kills him in that fight, right?

[00:33:26] I think so.

[00:33:27] So earlier in the series, we see his dad on his deathbed talking to Kaoru as he is a much

[00:33:34] older child than in that picture.

[00:33:36] And also the mother apparently died from a science experiment gone wrong between him

[00:33:42] and Ryuji.

[00:33:42] It just doesn't seem to fit.

[00:33:44] It just seems like, I don't understand.

[00:33:46] I need like a Phoenix Wright to figure this shit out.

[00:33:49] It feels like he didn't think it out all the way.

[00:33:52] It just, it seems like this was kind of like, Hey man, uh, jump's about to be missing the

[00:33:55] series.

[00:33:55] So like, you want to come and write a manga real quick?

[00:33:58] Fusai.

[00:33:59] Yeah.

[00:33:59] I imagine even they call him the aliens arena guy.

[00:34:03] Yeah.

[00:34:04] This series just feels so unthought out.

[00:34:06] It's like, um, gun plays West where I feel he came up with the series like in like a

[00:34:10] month before he had to write it.

[00:34:12] This guy is like doing a Rocky style forgetting, but he has under 20 chapters.

[00:34:18] And he's just like, let me drop some swaggy panels in here and to make you not think about

[00:34:22] it.

[00:34:22] I also want to say though that, um, two other ideas I had were, I feel like, I don't know

[00:34:26] why, but I was like, imagine if this had been cyberpunk, that would have been really

[00:34:29] cool.

[00:34:29] I feel this offer could have made it like a really fun cyberpunk series.

[00:34:31] You mean Tokyo Shinobi squad?

[00:34:33] Yes.

[00:34:34] With, uh, with Shiryu Steel?

[00:34:36] Like how would that work?

[00:34:37] I don't know.

[00:34:37] I just, just have some flying cars and it's raining all the time.

[00:34:40] Okay.

[00:34:41] And that's it.

[00:34:41] It's the same, but it's in the Blade Runner universe.

[00:34:44] Yeah.

[00:34:45] That's it.

[00:34:46] Make it work.

[00:34:46] Right on.

[00:34:48] Wouldn't that be dope?

[00:34:49] It would be more interesting than this.

[00:34:51] I can tell you that.

[00:34:52] I forget what spawned this note, but I said, what if this entire series plot was just an elaborate

[00:34:57] scheme to teach the main character French?

[00:34:58] I think someone explains French to him in like a panel maybe, but I should add that as a note.

[00:35:03] Oh God.

[00:35:05] It just felt like a lot of, uh, just stuff being said in this series for no reason.

[00:35:09] Yeah.

[00:35:09] I think there is one panel where somebody, yeah.

[00:35:12] He says like the French word for like work translates to torture or something.

[00:35:17] Yeah.

[00:35:18] It's a French word for melancholy is melancholy.

[00:35:20] Yeah.

[00:35:21] All right.

[00:35:21] Also, uh, my last note was that there seems to be some African lore to this.

[00:35:25] There are people, at least it looked like, I think they were wearing African and spark clothing.

[00:35:29] Like where did that come from?

[00:35:30] And why wasn't that in the series more?

[00:35:31] That's a very rarely seen inspiration in Shonen Jump.

[00:35:35] I legit thought he was ripping off the pillar men from part two.

[00:35:39] Yeah.

[00:35:40] This is like JJK speed run and it's like, Hey, we got a African, uh, sorcerers.

[00:35:44] And it's like, okay, what, what do we know about them?

[00:35:46] Nothing.

[00:35:47] Yeah.

[00:35:47] They, they show up for literally two pages in the final chapter and they, they're, they're

[00:35:52] nothing.

[00:35:52] They contribute nothing.

[00:35:53] I still think roughly Jujutsu Kaisen was like your secret ability is the main villain

[00:35:57] has never seen a black person before.

[00:35:59] If I'm remembering that scene right.

[00:36:00] Yeah.

[00:36:01] The little fight.

[00:36:02] What?

[00:36:02] Yeah.

[00:36:03] I think you can back me up on that, right?

[00:36:04] That's kind of what they say.

[00:36:06] That, uh, that's what happens.

[00:36:07] Yeah.

[00:36:08] He's like, you're, you're the strongest cause you've never been outside of Japan and you

[00:36:11] know, black guys over in Africa really get down.

[00:36:14] Yeah.

[00:36:16] It really happens.

[00:36:17] Holy shit.

[00:36:19] Yeah.

[00:36:19] And he starts to like break dancing and shit, kicking his ass.

[00:36:22] I have never seen an offer.

[00:36:24] Stop giving a fuck as hard as the writer of Jujutsu Kaisen.

[00:36:26] Are you not kidding at all?

[00:36:29] It got crazy.

[00:36:30] Yato is backing me up.

[00:36:31] This is really what happened.

[00:36:32] I believe you.

[00:36:32] I'm just shocked.

[00:36:34] Yeah.

[00:36:34] It got, it got a little silly at times.

[00:36:36] Yeah.

[00:36:36] Got.

[00:36:36] All right.

[00:36:37] We're getting really silly.

[00:36:38] So why don't we get into miscellaneous thoughts?

[00:36:40] Is that cool?

[00:36:40] Yeah.

[00:36:40] Yato, as of course the silliest Billy, he's going to drop off the clopter.

[00:36:44] So that, can you give us some miscellaneous thoughts you might've had?

[00:36:47] Uh, yeah.

[00:36:47] Um, first I want to just say like the whole beef between the dad and, uh, Amine's brother

[00:36:54] or whatever was just random as hell.

[00:36:56] Like the mom dies and the bad guys, like, I want to bring her back.

[00:36:59] And the dad is like, no.

[00:37:01] And they both form opposing organizations to fight over this point.

[00:37:06] Like who backs up Ryuji in this case?

[00:37:08] Like you want to bring this woman back to life?

[00:37:09] I don't know her.

[00:37:10] Why is he able to form an organization to, to do this?

[00:37:13] Like who the fuck cares about that lady?

[00:37:14] It seems like everybody cares about that lady.

[00:37:18] Every single person.

[00:37:19] We don't see enough about her or anything though for like, so why do they care?

[00:37:22] There wasn't enough to care about.

[00:37:24] It's just, we just have to care about her because the character cares.

[00:37:26] That's exactly what I mean when I said it tells not show because like, I completely agree

[00:37:31] with you.

[00:37:31] I would have liked to have seen, why do these people give a shit about her?

[00:37:34] Like, uh, yeah, I have no idea.

[00:37:36] Also, oh my God, did we need like the bureaucracy?

[00:37:40] Like in the second chapter, he's like, now we have to get your license.

[00:37:42] And I'm like, really?

[00:37:43] Come on.

[00:37:44] You don't know.

[00:37:44] Did he ever even get one?

[00:37:45] I don't know, but it's also like, no, you don't.

[00:37:48] You super do not have to get a license right now.

[00:37:51] You can't, you don't have to do that.

[00:37:52] There is no reason to hold off.

[00:37:55] Like before, before we saw like what I felt was an actual fucking fight.

[00:37:59] And the ranking system don't give a shit.

[00:38:01] No.

[00:38:02] Oh my God.

[00:38:02] I don't even remember there being one.

[00:38:03] Yeah.

[00:38:03] They explained the ranking system again before we see like three Shiro.

[00:38:08] I think he goes on one normal mission.

[00:38:10] Yeah.

[00:38:11] It lasts like five pages.

[00:38:12] Oh yeah.

[00:38:13] Yeah.

[00:38:13] With the, with the kids at the like daycare or whatever.

[00:38:15] The one Shiro is like trying to kill the kids and he, it's like he's doing clones or something.

[00:38:20] Is that the mission?

[00:38:21] Something.

[00:38:21] Yeah.

[00:38:22] It was, it was poopy.

[00:38:23] So stupid.

[00:38:24] There was a moment where like the Shiro was like thinking for itself and it gave me like

[00:38:29] slight Jujutsu Kaisen vibes, but shitty.

[00:38:31] The series turns into Jujutsu Kaisen during the fight scenes like that are very Jujutsu

[00:38:35] Kaisen inspired.

[00:38:36] Yeah.

[00:38:36] Yeah.

[00:38:36] With the sketchiness.

[00:38:37] God damn this fucking series.

[00:38:40] Yeah.

[00:38:40] Also do the Shiro eating the soul do anything?

[00:38:43] Did they gain new powers or something?

[00:38:44] They're just like, Oh, I really want to eat the soul.

[00:38:46] And I was like, what?

[00:38:47] Like, was there something?

[00:38:47] Do they get experience points?

[00:38:49] I think they just hungy.

[00:38:50] Yeah.

[00:38:50] They never said it would have been cool if it was kind of like a soul eater type thing,

[00:38:53] whereas like they established something coming from, you know, eating 50 or, you know, like

[00:38:57] maybe it restored their energy or gave them a little boost in power or something.

[00:39:01] But nope, it was just like, Oh, there's a soul.

[00:39:03] I got a munch on it.

[00:39:04] Yum, yum, yum.

[00:39:04] Or maybe they could have had a thing where like they say, Oh, the Shiro eat your soul when

[00:39:09] you like work with them or something.

[00:39:12] And it's like, well, that could have been a way to establish stakes.

[00:39:15] I don't know.

[00:39:16] That could have been like yum, yum, yum, steak.

[00:39:18] They kind of imply it's an explanation for why Ryuji might have gone crazy, like, but

[00:39:23] they don't really go into that at all.

[00:39:25] And so it's kind of like, well, maybe that's a little scary.

[00:39:27] That's like a little worrying.

[00:39:29] It doesn't matter at all until suddenly the main character dies from it.

[00:39:32] It's ridiculous.

[00:39:34] Come on.

[00:39:34] Yeah.

[00:39:35] Did you guys hear miscellaneous thoughts or shall I go into the notes provided to me

[00:39:38] by David Evelyn and of course our wonderful Maxie B?

[00:39:40] Oh, they snuck in the neck romance.

[00:39:43] Oh, yes.

[00:39:44] It's the last point of the title.

[00:39:46] The neck romance.

[00:39:47] Yeah.

[00:39:47] They translated to Far East necro romance in like the final chapter.

[00:39:51] So stupid.

[00:39:52] Oh, yeah.

[00:39:53] I remember that.

[00:39:54] Oh, but fucking Jesus fucking Christ.

[00:39:57] Anyway.

[00:39:58] Yeah.

[00:39:58] I don't have anything else to say besides that.

[00:40:00] All right.

[00:40:01] Now that we've talked about that.

[00:40:02] So from David Evelyn, some trivia for Shishi's name, they wanted to include the Japanese.

[00:40:06] So it would be more obvious where it came from.

[00:40:07] But they didn't go through with it.

[00:40:08] It was especially going to mean I will drink blood and devour flesh.

[00:40:12] They mentioned that.

[00:40:13] And I got to say that is a hard line.

[00:40:15] Okay.

[00:40:16] Yeah.

[00:40:16] That was fucking sick.

[00:40:18] Honestly, that's a positive.

[00:40:19] Just that line.

[00:40:20] Like, damn.

[00:40:21] I'm going to butcher it.

[00:40:22] But it's Chiyo Sasori is Shishi Mura o Tetsuku Tomo, which is a quote from Ichio Higuchi's

[00:40:28] Late Frost.

[00:40:29] Good job.

[00:40:30] And then most of the necromancy insurers are based on band names.

[00:40:33] So there you go.

[00:40:34] Part 10 of Jojo.

[00:40:35] I knew it.

[00:40:36] So Love Phantom is this Love Phantom.

[00:40:38] Division Kashimashi is Elephant Kashimashi.

[00:40:40] And the ghost inside is the ghost inside.

[00:40:43] I just knew in my head that these were music references, but like I didn't know the music

[00:40:47] references.

[00:40:48] You just need a good limp biscuit.

[00:40:50] You mean a flaccid pancake.

[00:40:52] Yeah.

[00:40:52] Or sorry, flaccid pancake.

[00:40:54] Flaccid pancake.

[00:40:55] And then finally, Chitauri's name was probably from old text from Benno Nishikniki.

[00:40:59] Specifically, Cockfight of the Third Day.

[00:41:01] There's a quote that goes, this is a bunch of Japanese.

[00:41:04] So I'll say the English.

[00:41:05] One-eyed crush, blood spilling, tail plucked.

[00:41:07] It was turned unrecognizable and left.

[00:41:09] Damn.

[00:41:10] And though, David, thank you so much.

[00:41:11] And we will try and reach out to that translators when possible.

[00:41:14] I really appreciate providing that.

[00:41:15] And from Maxi B, our wonderful manga researcher.

[00:41:17] They really didn't have anything to say, but they do want to say, look at the art for

[00:41:21] the series Fusai Naba because they're 99% sure that this is the same author using

[00:41:26] an alias.

[00:41:27] And I've included a picture in the notes.

[00:41:29] I think we can all create if someone said that's the same artist, I would absolutely

[00:41:32] believe them.

[00:41:33] Yeah.

[00:41:33] Yeah, I'm pretty sure it is.

[00:41:35] And you guys saw in real time when I was reading and I said, this art reminds me of

[00:41:38] Aliens Arena.

[00:41:39] And then I went, wait a second.

[00:41:41] Yeah, I think he's just going by a different pen name or something in this case.

[00:41:44] I'm pretty, I'm like 99% sure that's actually him.

[00:41:47] Yeah.

[00:41:47] And that series actually six volumes deep.

[00:41:49] So I guess that's where he found success.

[00:41:50] I'm not sure why he made a second series.

[00:41:52] You know what?

[00:41:52] Good for him, I guess.

[00:41:54] Maybe he was worried if he had three failures, they would just kick him out.

[00:41:57] So Maxi B does say that is a soft rule where it's a three strike and you're out rule for

[00:42:01] Shonen Jump.

[00:42:02] Yeah.

[00:42:02] I think this one was actually ongoing during the time where he did these others and jump

[00:42:06] or whatever.

[00:42:07] So I guess it's time, I don't know.

[00:42:08] It's very strange how he's able to do both.

[00:42:11] Yeah.

[00:42:11] Was he able to do both?

[00:42:13] No.

[00:42:14] Define able to do.

[00:42:16] Tried it.

[00:42:16] He tasted it.

[00:42:17] He tried to do both.

[00:42:18] Yeah.

[00:42:18] All right.

[00:42:19] But shall we get into final verdict?

[00:42:20] Yep.

[00:42:21] From Tucker.

[00:42:21] Read Demons as a Shadow Realm, which I'm going to say that too.

[00:42:24] Maxi B.

[00:42:25] Necromance.

[00:42:26] Love bites, I guess.

[00:42:27] Ball.

[00:42:27] Lead with the premise next time.

[00:42:28] Blamumu.

[00:42:29] Can't wait for Steel Ball.

[00:42:30] Run short.

[00:42:31] And there you are.

[00:42:31] There I go.

[00:42:32] Chicken Mordlord.

[00:42:33] Two and a half men ass ending.

[00:42:35] Dackerson.

[00:42:35] No pep in this manga step.

[00:42:37] Diego.

[00:42:37] My chemical.

[00:42:38] Necromance.

[00:42:39] Not bizarre enough.

[00:42:40] Deerrocks.

[00:42:40] One of the endings ever made.

[00:42:42] Got Morbius really added to our vocabulary with that expression of the movie of all time.

[00:42:47] Funky Green.

[00:42:48] Alien's area again with awful aftermath.

[00:42:50] Or Aliens Arena again with awful aftermath.

[00:42:54] Glornak.

[00:42:54] Interesting powers.

[00:42:55] Decent characters.

[00:42:56] Jinky hands.

[00:42:57] Isekai Sensei.

[00:42:57] The romance of necromancy was sudden end.

[00:42:59] JRPG astrologist.

[00:43:01] The ghosts look like peep clouds.

[00:43:02] Captain Clueless.

[00:43:03] Not worth resurrections.

[00:43:05] Keep it buried.

[00:43:06] Blast the red rose.

[00:43:07] Flopcord only cares about the ending?

[00:43:09] Yeah, our Discord was kind of freaking out about the ending and not everything else that

[00:43:13] was honestly worse.

[00:43:14] Lord Anubis.

[00:43:15] No using necromancy.

[00:43:17] The necromancer demanded.

[00:43:19] Luffy0321.

[00:43:20] Bizarre ending befitting the stand ripoffs.

[00:43:23] Portal Man.

[00:43:24] Who's going to the shotgun wedding?

[00:43:26] Red Blade.

[00:43:26] Exercise.

[00:43:27] As in exercising a demon.

[00:43:29] Exercise.

[00:43:30] As in going to the gym.

[00:43:31] Kidnap.

[00:43:32] Yap.

[00:43:32] Necromancer.

[00:43:33] Romance.

[00:43:34] Riel.

[00:43:34] Is it cannibalism if they're ghosts?

[00:43:37] Spubby.

[00:43:37] Here's what Kyokuto Necromancer does well.

[00:43:40] Spike.

[00:43:41] This truly was our Kyokuto Necromancer.

[00:43:45] T-Wolfwood.

[00:43:45] What the fuck was that ending?

[00:43:47] Tai.

[00:43:47] Kai.

[00:43:48] Kauru's Bizarre Adventure.

[00:43:50] Zangetsu.

[00:43:50] The Stand.

[00:43:51] Watchtower.

[00:43:51] Ga ga.

[00:43:52] Ooh la la.

[00:43:53] No more bad necromance.

[00:43:55] Zylon.

[00:43:56] Stop with the Exorcist manga, Shueisha.

[00:43:59] Yeah.

[00:43:59] And then I had two, so you'll have to tell me.

[00:44:01] I said, you wouldn't let me like this.

[00:44:03] And Homer, it's an ending.

[00:44:04] That's enough.

[00:44:05] And I told Jordan in our Chainsaw Minute, I was going to make an R-Simpsons reference

[00:44:08] in our main episode recording.

[00:44:10] I think that one's better.

[00:44:11] I don't get the exact one, but like, I get it.

[00:44:13] And that works.

[00:44:14] Yeah.

[00:44:14] Yeah.

[00:44:15] Um, and then Jordan, how about you?

[00:44:16] Just checking off a trope list.

[00:44:18] And, uh, I actually have a second one.

[00:44:20] Literal last second genre shit.

[00:44:23] Uh, Jordan, that is five words.

[00:44:25] So disqualified.

[00:44:27] Literal last fucking second genre shit.

[00:44:29] Literal, literal.

[00:44:30] And then Yato, how about you?

[00:44:32] What was your six word summary?

[00:44:32] Fake, spooky manga in Shonen Jump.

[00:44:35] Nice.

[00:44:36] I love it.

[00:44:37] And then, so I think we all would say this was a flop.

[00:44:40] Is this certified flop?

[00:44:41] Yeah.

[00:44:42] I've been thinking about this kind of like new rubric for determining this shit for me.

[00:44:47] Basically, it's like, how would you respond to a friend after they had you read this?

[00:44:52] Like if I read something like a Time Paradox Ghostwriter, I'd go to my friend and be like,

[00:44:56] Hey man, thanks.

[00:44:57] You know, that meant a lot to me.

[00:44:59] I really appreciate you giving me this.

[00:45:00] If I read School Judgment, uh, I would actually stop being friends with that person.

[00:45:05] If I read this, I'd just be like, okay, all right, fine.

[00:45:08] Like kind of don't get why you wanted me to read this at all.

[00:45:11] So this is certified flop.

[00:45:12] I feel like it wasted my time.

[00:45:14] It really did.

[00:45:15] That's the thing.

[00:45:15] It's like, you see every like once in a while, you're like, oh, that's kind of cool.

[00:45:18] Maybe a little bit on that.

[00:45:19] And then it just doesn't.

[00:45:20] I feel like my main issue with this series is just how generic it is.

[00:45:23] So, I mean, if you want to check out a series that I feel like just flips so many

[00:45:27] of these tropes on its head, and this is a series that is very famous.

[00:45:31] So we talked about it before.

[00:45:32] Hold on there, buddy.

[00:45:33] We got to let our guests say, was this a flop or not?

[00:45:35] Well, I thought that you are.

[00:45:36] Oh, sorry.

[00:45:37] Never mind.

[00:45:37] I screwed up.

[00:45:38] Sorry.

[00:45:39] I also haven't given my opinion.

[00:45:40] Jordan just wants to be.

[00:45:41] I got confused.

[00:45:42] Dang, buddy.

[00:45:43] Typical five or six word summary Jordan energy.

[00:45:46] God.

[00:45:47] Weak aura.

[00:45:48] God damn.

[00:45:48] I would say it's a flop for sure.

[00:45:50] Like you said.

[00:45:51] Certified or not?

[00:45:52] Certified.

[00:45:53] Yeah, sure.

[00:45:54] Give it that certification, baby.

[00:45:56] Stamp it.

[00:45:56] There you go.

[00:45:57] It's certified.

[00:45:58] Got it.

[00:45:59] All right.

[00:45:59] I also think this is a certified flop.

[00:46:01] And so I would say, yeah, read Demons of the Shadow Realm.

[00:46:04] Not enough people are reading it.

[00:46:05] Yato, are you familiar with that series?

[00:46:07] Oh, yeah.

[00:46:07] I love it.

[00:46:07] I'm probably like two or three chapters behind, but.

[00:46:10] Fucking let's go.

[00:46:11] Yeah.

[00:46:12] And then if you want something I haven't recommended before, doesn't have anything to do with

[00:46:15] it, but you can read young girls don't play fighting games, which is fantastic.

[00:46:19] It's about cute girls getting really into fighting games.

[00:46:22] I love that one, too.

[00:46:23] Yeah.

[00:46:24] Oh, what a chat.

[00:46:25] And then Jordan, what did you want to recommend?

[00:46:27] So if you want a series that you've probably already seen and read and whatever that but

[00:46:32] that I think like takes a lot of tropes and flips it on its head, unlike this series,

[00:46:36] which I feel like just sticks to the tropes so fucking hard.

[00:46:41] Mob Psycho.

[00:46:41] Really good.

[00:46:42] You know, Mob Psycho 100.

[00:46:43] Great fucking anime.

[00:46:44] One of the best ever made.

[00:46:45] That's it.

[00:46:46] Coldest take ever.

[00:46:47] Coldest fucking take in the whole world, but it is a take.

[00:46:50] It is one of my wife's favorites.

[00:46:52] And then Yato, what do you recommend someone should check out instead?

[00:46:55] Instead of reading this shit, go ahead and read like we talked about Ranger Reject.

[00:47:00] I think it's much better than this.

[00:47:02] I had a feeling.

[00:47:04] Yeah, it's it's by one of my favorites that are make the exorcist fall in love.

[00:47:08] Another favorite of mine.

[00:47:10] I've heard good things.

[00:47:11] How do you feel about Red Ranger Reincarnated?

[00:47:13] I haven't read it.

[00:47:14] I'm not actually like a Power Ranger or a Sentai guy at all.

[00:47:17] Like I didn't grow up like watching it for real.

[00:47:20] And I just fell in love with the series.

[00:47:22] You know, the main character is the bad guy and he's a goofy goober.

[00:47:25] And it's kind of like the boys until it's not.

[00:47:27] But it's really good.

[00:47:28] I think anybody would like it.

[00:47:29] But the main thing is people kind of look at it as a joke and don't take it seriously

[00:47:32] until they get hit with like some serious shit.

[00:47:35] And then they're like, oh, wait, this is a little too much.

[00:47:37] And then they drop it.

[00:47:37] What series is it?

[00:47:38] Ranger Reject or Go Go Loser Ranger is the name that they've cursed it with.

[00:47:42] What stupid fucking English name.

[00:47:44] I had a series about what if a Power Ranger had to get through emotional issue and it's

[00:47:48] called Why So Blue Ranger?

[00:47:49] Oh, God.

[00:47:52] All right.

[00:47:52] But Jordan, we said this is certified.

[00:47:54] Is this the worst thing we've ever read?

[00:47:55] No.

[00:47:56] Yato, how would you how close in the spectrum of manga?

[00:47:59] Like, have you read a lot of really bad manga?

[00:48:01] Um, yeah, I don't I don't think I'm not one of those guys who's just like, I only read

[00:48:05] good shit.

[00:48:05] But yeah, I've read some bad stuff.

[00:48:07] So I would probably put this kind of like, you know, close to three out of 10, maybe.

[00:48:11] That sounds fair.

[00:48:12] This manga is like biggest crime is how unbelievably generic it is.

[00:48:16] Yeah.

[00:48:17] Yeah.

[00:48:17] Which we've seen all the time.

[00:48:18] Yeah.

[00:48:18] That's the thing is, like, why make a manga about a topic where there we can each name

[00:48:21] like five good series that are literally on this?

[00:48:24] Like, why read this over Hunter Hunter?

[00:48:26] Why read this over Yu Yu Hakusho instead of Jojo?

[00:48:29] Bleach!

[00:48:29] The first part of Jujutsu Kaisen before it started eating shit.

[00:48:32] Yeah.

[00:48:32] You know, I digress.

[00:48:33] Let's get into wrap up.

[00:48:34] OK, Yato, thank you so much for joining us today.

[00:48:37] Where can people get more of your content in their life?

[00:48:39] My content, you can find me on YouTube or Twitter.

[00:48:41] Both are named at YatoPlays, which is Y-A-T-O-P-L-A-Y-Z.

[00:48:47] I hate it.

[00:48:47] Came out with the name when I started Twitch streaming.

[00:48:49] But don't worry about that.

[00:48:50] You know, I do YouTube videos on different manga.

[00:48:53] I'm about to get back into my new manga recommendation bag.

[00:48:56] I've kind of been lazy on YouTube.

[00:48:58] But I also started a podcast with three other YouTubers called Panel Focus.

[00:49:01] We do a show called Shonen Pulse, where we talk about each week we review nine different

[00:49:05] manga.

[00:49:05] Right now we're talking about Kagura Bachi, Ichi the Witch, Don to Don, Chainsaw Man, Centuria.

[00:49:12] Hell yeah.

[00:49:13] Is Kagura Bachi the next One Piece?

[00:49:15] One Piece?

[00:49:16] No, but I think it is the next series.

[00:49:19] That and I have really high hopes for Ichi the Witch because I loved Iruma and Usazaki.

[00:49:24] So both of those.

[00:49:24] I love Usazaki as artists from Act Age and Iruma is one of my favorite series.

[00:49:29] So I think Ichi the Witch and Kagura Bachi are being primed to carry the torch and jump

[00:49:34] next up because, you know, after Hunter is over or whatever, like when Togashi takes a

[00:49:38] break, like the next oldest thing is about to be like fucking Yozakura family or something.

[00:49:42] I know.

[00:49:43] And then it's fucking Undead Unlocked.

[00:49:45] Yeah.

[00:49:45] And like both of those are ending like soon-ish.

[00:49:48] So it's like we need some new blood.

[00:49:49] And I think those are the two that are kind of being being propped up.

[00:49:52] So Undead Unlocked, like the main series is like keeps up the quality from the first

[00:49:57] chapter.

[00:49:58] Then I hope it ends soon.

[00:49:59] I heard it has one of the biggest jumps in quality from the first chapter.

[00:50:03] Oh, good.

[00:50:04] Oh, yeah.

[00:50:04] Yeah.

[00:50:05] Undead Unlocked is one that you really need to.

[00:50:06] You can't judge it until like chapter nine.

[00:50:08] Uh-oh.

[00:50:09] We're only reading the first chapter for our Patreon episode.

[00:50:11] But Yato, that sounds really fun.

[00:50:13] And of course, if you ever, we would be more than happy to be guests on your show.

[00:50:16] Jordan, I love Chainsaw Man and Don.

[00:50:17] I was OG in both Don to Don and Chainsaw Man.

[00:50:20] Jordan can testify.

[00:50:21] Okay.

[00:50:21] I read Chainsaw Man pre-Rise.

[00:50:23] That's how like in the sauce I was.

[00:50:25] That's when I started.

[00:50:26] Hell yeah.

[00:50:27] Yeah.

[00:50:27] I started around like chapter 40, but I was Don to Don day zero.

[00:50:30] Yeah.

[00:50:30] I was Don to Don chapter nine.

[00:50:32] I showed Steph the first episode of Don to Don.

[00:50:35] She fucking hated it so much.

[00:50:37] Yeah.

[00:50:37] It's it's it really sucks.

[00:50:39] You have to have a trigger warning.

[00:50:40] And it's the like the only episode that's like that.

[00:50:42] It was.

[00:50:43] Oh, God.

[00:50:44] I'll say Don to Don and Undead Unlocked have a very I don't want to spoil because it sounds

[00:50:48] like you guys haven't read Undead Unlocked, but Undead Unlocked and Don

[00:50:50] have a similar start and they both kind of pivot and go in much better directions afterward.

[00:50:56] Yeah.

[00:50:56] But yeah, the first chapter of Undead Unlocked is like the one of the main characters basically

[00:51:01] saying he wants to rape the other main character.

[00:51:04] Yeah.

[00:51:04] Bro.

[00:51:04] Spoilers.

[00:51:05] I haven't read it yet.

[00:51:06] Oh, my God.

[00:51:06] I said spoilers about Hades to one time and David won't let me.

[00:51:11] Oh, yeah.

[00:51:12] Fucking down.

[00:51:12] Go about it.

[00:51:13] I don't want to hear that.

[00:51:13] I haven't played two yet.

[00:51:14] Well, the tagline of Hades to is death to Chronos and Jordan got mad when I start talking

[00:51:18] about the final bosses.

[00:51:19] Is there I didn't even know there was a fucking tagline and I was honestly expecting there

[00:51:23] might be some kind of twist.

[00:51:24] No, no.

[00:51:25] All right.

[00:51:26] Anyway, I also want to say thank you to Wolfwood for recommending Yadda.

[00:51:30] We really appreciate it.

[00:51:31] And props to Jordan for making the opening and ending theme, being a great co-host and helping

[00:51:34] with the editing.

[00:51:35] Also, Jordan, I wasn't being ironic.

[00:51:37] I just haven't read that chapter yet.

[00:51:38] And I know there's a twist.

[00:51:39] Well, it wasn't really.

[00:51:40] Well, I don't know.

[00:51:40] I don't know.

[00:51:41] Whatever.

[00:51:41] I apologize.

[00:51:42] I apologize, David.

[00:51:44] Listen, Jordan, I love you and I'll see you on Saturday.

[00:51:45] All right.

[00:51:46] Okay.

[00:51:47] Thank you so much.

[00:51:47] What part were we at again?

[00:51:49] I got the part where you think me.

[00:51:51] That's why this pause was really awkward.

[00:51:53] Thank you so much, David, for all the hard work you do on this show.

[00:51:55] My head's a mess right now.

[00:51:56] I'm sorry.

[00:51:57] It's okay.

[00:51:58] Mine too.

[00:51:58] 81 degrees and my AC hasn't been working.

[00:52:00] So I'm with you.

[00:52:01] Props to Murr Lyle for the awesome cover art.

[00:53:06] Jordan, what Patreon content did we release in November?

[00:53:09] Well, David, we actually just mentioned him, but you, me, and Xander Cannon, we're talking

[00:53:15] about Get A Robo Go.

[00:53:16] Great fucking series.

[00:53:43] That was really sweet of her.

[00:53:44] No pun intended.

[00:53:45] Moving on down to the ravioli tier, where you get weekly pictures of my adorable goblin dog.

[00:53:50] She now loves vegetables so much.

[00:53:52] She just assumes and looks at the ground when I take peas out because she thinks I'm going

[00:53:56] to give her some, and she's usually correct.
