MAL Description:

A silent darkness threatens a thousand years of peace... Who can stand up to great evil... and Jiangshi?! Young warriors, become the light that defeats despair!

[00:00:00] Welcome to Shonen Flop Chibi, first impressions mini episode where we talk about the first chapter of the series we'll be covering in depth next week with our guest, Manga Alerts. Beep, beep, beep, manga alert, manga alert, beep, beep, beep, beep, crisis alert.

[00:00:14] Hi, I'm Jordan! And with me today as usual is my lovely co-host David. Say hi, David!

[00:00:21] Hi, David. Imagine if I did like a really racist Chinese accent.

[00:00:24] Oh God. Um...

[00:00:26] David gets cancelled.

[00:00:27] Good thing we edit, listener, and you'll never know if David actually did that or not.

[00:00:32] Haha.

[00:00:32] I did not.

[00:00:33] Haha.

[00:00:33] You'll never know for sure.

[00:00:34] No, he did not.

[00:00:35] Maybe instead of Hi, David, you just could have said, believe it!

[00:00:38] Yeah, this series is fucking Naruto.

[00:00:40] This series is fucking Naruto!

[00:00:42] But what name is it going under, David?

[00:00:45] Jiangshi X.

[00:00:46] Jiangshi X!

[00:00:47] The X is for sucks.

[00:00:49] Yeah!

[00:00:50] Oh yes.

[00:00:52] And why don't you tell us about who made this?

[00:00:53] No pun intended because it's about vampires.

[00:00:55] Oh, that's true.

[00:00:57] Very clever.

[00:00:57] It's like poetry.

[00:00:58] It rhymes.

[00:00:59] Like Twilight.

[00:00:59] I love that meme on OK Buddy Cinema file where it's like,

[00:01:02] what's the hardest picture of a director?

[00:01:03] And it was like George Lucas wearing a cars shirt at like a NASCAR rally.

[00:01:09] Oh my God, that's really good.

[00:01:11] Yeah.

[00:01:11] That's really good.

[00:01:12] Uh, there are other George Lucas memes, but like poetry,

[00:01:15] it rhymes and it's time for Jordan to drop a rhyme about this time that we talked

[00:01:20] about the manga.

[00:01:20] So do it.

[00:01:21] That was a little tortured, David.

[00:01:23] Haha.

[00:01:24] I grasped for air at that last part.

[00:01:25] Anyway, this is Jiangshi X and it was written by Kurazono Norihiko.

[00:01:32] And it ran from January 23rd, 2023 to February 19th, 2024.

[00:01:38] Wow.

[00:01:39] Over a full year.

[00:01:40] God damn.

[00:01:41] That's wait.

[00:01:42] That didn't Naruto in like 10 years ago.

[00:01:43] I'm confused.

[00:01:44] Ha ha.

[00:01:45] Aha.

[00:01:46] It ran for 35 chapters in four volumes.

[00:01:49] Ooh, you know, I mean, we got spoiled with all the U-19s.

[00:01:53] Now we're getting the longer series.

[00:01:55] Yeah.

[00:01:55] But why don't we get into the plot summary so we could talk about how this is shitty

[00:02:00] Naruto.

[00:02:01] Yeah, let's do it.

[00:02:02] Xiao Hu is in training to become what's known as a Dao Shi.

[00:02:05] Monks who fight Jiangxi.

[00:02:07] Jiangxi are magic zombies that have their power levels tattooed on their foreheads for some

[00:02:13] reason.

[00:02:13] He's got two teammates named Chow Yun and Julie.

[00:02:17] And his dad, Long Hu is the Da Dao Shi or also known as the leader of the Dao Shi.

[00:02:23] David, he's kind of like the dad Ao Shi.

[00:02:26] Yeah.

[00:02:26] The dad Kage.

[00:02:27] Yeah.

[00:02:28] They've got their big exam arc tomorrow.

[00:02:31] You see, David, because he's Da Dao Shi.

[00:02:32] It's like he's the dad Ao Shi.

[00:02:34] They've got their big exam arc tomorrow.

[00:02:37] And when Xiao Hu tells his dad he's going to get his hunter's license, he's like, yeah,

[00:02:42] you fucking better.

[00:02:43] Their test tomorrow is to bind a level two Jiangxi who, as previously stated, has the number

[00:02:48] two tattooed on his head.

[00:02:49] However, only one of them will be allowed through, which creates tension in the group.

[00:02:53] Xiao Hu leaves their house in the middle of the night and Chow Yun says he's going to train

[00:02:58] with his daddy.

[00:02:59] But actually, he went to stand on a rock and have stressful thoughts.

[00:03:03] It's an old man riding a tiger walks up and tells him that he's got to do what he's got

[00:03:07] to do and that Dao Shi is a lifestyle.

[00:03:09] And then he leaves popcorn David.

[00:03:11] The next day, the exam starts.

[00:03:14] And apparently, if anyone leaves the area, they all fail and can never take it again.

[00:03:17] And we'll always be sad and miserable failures and clinical depression.

[00:03:21] Hey, I thought this was a fiction.

[00:03:22] Hey, a level two Jiangxi shows up, bites Chow Yun's arm and runs away, which is a good

[00:03:27] thing that they're not traditional vampires.

[00:03:29] Yeah.

[00:03:29] Xiao Xu and Zhu Li are prepared to carry him to safety while Xiao Yun is prepared to cut

[00:03:33] off his own arm.

[00:03:35] The Jiangxi reappears and takes off his disguise to reveal that it's Santa Claus and it's all

[00:03:39] a prank and he's their teacher.

[00:03:40] They pass and graduate.

[00:03:42] Yay.

[00:03:42] Was that their teacher?

[00:03:43] I thought that was just like another random dude.

[00:03:45] I think it was just like one of their teachers, you know, like not their direct teacher,

[00:03:50] but like like the gym teacher, kind of.

[00:03:53] Yeah.

[00:03:53] Xiao Yun calls Xiao Hu a Nepo baby for training with his dad, but his dad says he's adopted.

[00:03:58] He's not his real son and he doesn't train with me and implies that adopted children

[00:04:02] have lesser value than biological ones.

[00:04:04] Oh, 100 percent it does.

[00:04:06] But it turns out that some bad guys are expositioning of how they're going to attack soon.

[00:04:10] And also we still need to know that his dad is still literally the boss of this entire

[00:04:14] program.

[00:04:14] So it doesn't matter.

[00:04:15] It still is an immense advantage.

[00:04:17] He probably has.

[00:04:18] He's still a Nepo baby.

[00:04:20] Like, yeah, you see, David, even though Elon Musk's dad had an emerald mine, he really

[00:04:26] did work hard and did it on his own.

[00:04:28] Yeah.

[00:04:28] So, Jordan, what were your first impressions?

[00:04:30] This is Naruto that we don't just have at home.

[00:04:34] We have like too much of it at home.

[00:04:36] I think this is a bigger ripoff of Naruto than Metallica Mutulka was for Hunter Hunter

[00:04:41] and Dear Animone was for Hell's Paradise.

[00:04:44] And they even literally said, is this some sort of Hell's Paradise in Dear Animone?

[00:04:48] Yeah.

[00:04:48] If this wasn't by Shueisha, I feel like they would have sued them.

[00:04:51] It's interesting because like going just by the plot summary, it doesn't sound entirely

[00:04:55] like Naruto.

[00:04:56] But like when you're reading it, it's like this is Naruto, but shitty.

[00:05:00] Yeah.

[00:05:01] God, because aside from everything, it's just so generic.

[00:05:03] I mean, you have the three man group.

[00:05:05] They don't even have a token female.

[00:05:06] They don't even have a token female.

[00:05:09] Also, for the record, we already did the Team 7 iconic picture.

[00:05:12] We did it for Star.

[00:05:13] So no listeners were not doing as the cover art this time because we already have reference

[00:05:17] Naruto.

[00:05:17] Damn.

[00:05:18] I know.

[00:05:18] Jordan literally was putting his hands up for what's the cover art should

[00:05:21] be and then lower it.

[00:05:22] Oh, yeah, it's true.

[00:05:24] It's true.

[00:05:25] I was exactly.

[00:05:26] That is correct.

[00:05:27] I don't know why my idea is just to have them in characters and the vampires doing the

[00:05:32] thriller dance because they kind of stick their arms out awkwardly like that.

[00:05:35] God, I mean, that is like a legitimate or at least like actual like mythological like

[00:05:41] type of creature in like I think Chinese mythology, but it's still like it's such a specific

[00:05:47] creature like they all have these big hats and they all have numbers.

[00:05:52] Yeah, they're all dressed from like the 12th century for some reason.

[00:05:55] Well, that's like the traditional thing.

[00:05:58] But like I guess everybody is which is another Naruto thing kind of where they all seem to be

[00:06:03] dressed inachronistically.

[00:06:05] I don't know though.

[00:06:06] Like we haven't really seen the technology here.

[00:06:08] If they have sort of modern technology, that is also a huge Naruto.

[00:06:12] Yeah, and they're in a hidden village in the mountain.

[00:06:15] Yeah, the village hidden in the trees.

[00:06:17] Yeah, and they're fucking I love how this starts with an exam arc and they don't even

[00:06:22] like like oh my god.

[00:06:24] At least it got out of the way, right?

[00:06:25] Yeah, the series tries to like be cool by starting with like a pointless fight scene

[00:06:30] against the Jiangshi.

[00:06:31] Yeah, I thought it was weird how it started in a fight and it really made me feel like

[00:06:35] the author doesn't know how to tell an interesting story where he has to like artificially make

[00:06:38] it interesting in the first few pages.

[00:06:41] He's like, yo, look at look at this cool fight.

[00:06:43] Isn't that cool?

[00:06:44] Also this see this chapter was like long as fuck, but it went fast.

[00:06:48] Look, I'm gonna give this guy that this was not a slog to read.

[00:06:51] It just wasn't very interesting.

[00:06:53] Yeah, we've been reading hentai came in and I have to say those chapters fell probably as

[00:06:57] long as this chapter did.

[00:06:59] Yeah, and those chapters listener are not this long.

[00:07:02] Yeah, they're like 20 pages.

[00:07:04] Yeah, I do think though it is cool as Chinese vampires.

[00:07:06] It is a shame that it's probably not doing anything interesting.

[00:07:08] But shout out to my boy Don to Don, which just started a Chinese vampire arc in the

[00:07:13] chapter that landed the day we recorded.

[00:07:15] So I'm glad we record on Monday so we can make that comparison today.

[00:07:18] Oh my God, I'm a bit behind.

[00:07:21] Yeah, I also want to say though that at least the world feels a little bit interesting where

[00:07:24] this is like I'm really grasping, but I do like how they say, hey enough normal people

[00:07:28] can beat up a level one monster that actually feels good.

[00:07:31] That makes sense.

[00:07:32] You know, yeah, that shows, hey, that's why normal people are still alive.

[00:07:36] Because if you have a village of people, you still can fight the monsters off.

[00:07:38] Yeah, they actually try and like ground it in like this is what it actually is, you know?

[00:07:44] But also, it's so fucking stupid and annoying to have an exam where it's like, oh no, it's

[00:07:49] like, aha, the exam was actually a joke.

[00:07:52] You know, you guys all fell for it.

[00:07:54] It's actually the fact that you were willing to do it is itself.

[00:07:57] You passed my test.

[00:07:59] And it's also like the artificial bullshit of, oh, if we don't pass it this time, we can

[00:08:04] never take it again to create drama.

[00:08:07] It's so stupid.

[00:08:08] Like, why wouldn't they be able to take it again?

[00:08:10] Do you have too many?

[00:08:11] What the fuck is this?

[00:08:13] It's stupid.

[00:08:13] I heard the series wasn't very good, so I knew they weren't going to do something interesting.

[00:08:16] But I could have imagined a better offer having it play up straight and then they fail the exam

[00:08:21] and the entire series is them collecting the pieces of life now that they're like social

[00:08:24] outcasts in this world.

[00:08:25] That would have, I think, been actually an extremely cool idea and would have explained

[00:08:29] why it was their derivative because it's instantly breaking the formula that

[00:08:32] you're expecting and it needed you to think it was just Naruto ripoff.

[00:08:35] That or I was kind of thinking that they'd have to be like outlaws or something and they'd have

[00:08:39] to like be roving a roving band of Daoshi or something where they like which both of

[00:08:44] these options would have been cooler and more interesting.

[00:08:47] Also, how did they not know the test was a fake out?

[00:08:50] Like, how did no one ever hear about this the entire time where they see

[00:08:53] that they never really see anyone failing the test and being exiled?

[00:08:56] That feels like that would have been very apparent to them that that was what they

[00:08:59] were actually doing.

[00:08:59] Maybe they did, though.

[00:09:01] Like, they still could have failed the test, I guess, if one of them just ran away and

[00:09:06] maybe in the past people have just run away.

[00:09:08] So you're saying every single time everyone either passed or failed under different circumstances?

[00:09:12] I have no idea what I'm saying.

[00:09:14] Also, they did hand symbols.

[00:09:16] They did?

[00:09:16] Yeah, they did.

[00:09:17] I was like, are you fucking kidding me?

[00:09:19] That was so ridiculous.

[00:09:21] It just kind of looks and feels like shitty Naruto.

[00:09:24] Yeah.

[00:09:24] Also, the art is like there's some pretty bad art.

[00:09:27] Page 34 has some weird looking art.

[00:09:28] The only time I think the animus lifeless despite all the action, I do think that visual

[00:09:32] metaphor of the weight of his family crushing him was cool.

[00:09:34] But that was like the only time they really talk about the psychological impact of him

[00:09:38] being the Hokage's dad or the Hokage's son.

[00:09:40] I thought that the old man riding the tiger was a good character.

[00:09:44] Yes.

[00:09:44] And that's like the only character design I thought was interesting.

[00:09:48] Speaking of character design, did you notice that like one of the teachers looks a lot like the

[00:09:52] fake Shang-Chi and I assumed it was him.

[00:09:54] And then it turned out to be a completely different person because they both had like

[00:09:57] giant bushy beards.

[00:09:58] Oh, God, I don't think I did.

[00:10:00] And I was like, oh, OK, it's got to be him pretending.

[00:10:02] And then it was a different person.

[00:10:03] I was like, why did they set up this like one on one discussion with this random teacher

[00:10:07] like five pages earlier than?

[00:10:09] Oh, my God.

[00:10:09] You got to love the exposition teachers who are just watching the kids and be like,

[00:10:14] you know, he's like the son of this guy and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,

[00:10:17] and blah, blah, blah.

[00:10:17] And like they're just talking about it's like, but actually, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.

[00:10:20] And you also got to love how the main character has like an obligatory backstory scar on his face,

[00:10:27] which I assume that he keeps because it keeps his hatred flowing when he looks in the mirror.

[00:10:34] So I actually really need to read Kagerabashi.

[00:10:38] Yeah, because I was actually in the Shonen Flop Discord where we just created a

[00:10:40] recommendation channel.

[00:10:41] And I was like, are there any good manga that feel like a year two, which is like,

[00:10:44] I think, honestly, one of the most untapped perspectives of like what do you mean by year two?

[00:10:48] I don't know what you mean.

[00:10:50] So you're so you have like Batman year one where it's like he just started.

[00:10:53] He's getting his shit together.

[00:10:54] He's learning like the very fundamentals.

[00:10:56] Year two is after you've done all that, but they're still growing.

[00:10:59] The new Batman movie was set in Batman year two,

[00:11:01] where he's figured out like the most simple brainless stuff,

[00:11:04] but he's still fucking up a little bit that it's still like reasonable and interesting where

[00:11:08] you're like, oh, he still has a ways to go.

[00:11:09] Like, imagine if one piece started post time skip.

[00:11:12] Kind of like how Spider-Man often is, you know, it's like, yeah.

[00:11:16] And I think that's like a very underappreciated time period to show

[00:11:20] in a fictional character's life, you know?

[00:11:22] And so they just said someone said that Kagarabachi actually is a really good example

[00:11:24] of like a year two setting.

[00:11:26] That makes sense.

[00:11:27] Yeah.

[00:11:27] I've heard Kagarabachi is surprisingly good.

[00:11:30] I guess it isn't that much of a surprise since it's the greatest manga ever written.

[00:11:33] Yeah, it's the Morbius of manga.

[00:11:36] Oh man.

[00:11:37] Remember when Kagarabachi Kagarabachied all over the place?

[00:11:40] Uh, you telling me, Peter.

[00:11:42] Yeah.

[00:11:42] I'll never forget when Kagarabachi said his famous line,

[00:11:45] it's Kagarabachi in time.

[00:11:47] And then he Kagarabachied all over the place.

[00:11:49] Then he Kagarabachied everywhere.

[00:11:52] Anyway, I would not read 10 more chapters of this.

[00:11:54] No!

[00:11:55] I very much hope all these chapters go as fast and we were,

[00:11:57] you can read like all 34 remaining chapters in like two hours.

[00:12:00] That would be great.

[00:12:01] Yeah.

[00:12:01] Oh man.

[00:12:02] And then though, Jordan, before we get into what we think will happen next,

[00:12:04] if you've been enjoying the show,

[00:12:05] we'd really appreciate if you subscribe to the Shonen Flop Discord,

[00:12:08] trying to hit our goal of 1500 YouTube subs.

[00:12:10] And if we hit it, we'll do a special bonus episode on the Bill King Epilogue.

[00:12:13] If you're already subscribed, thank you so much.

[00:12:15] I think we're only 100 away or so.

[00:12:17] And then Jordan, what are your guesses?

[00:12:18] So I think the old man is like a legendary Doushi or something.

[00:12:22] Is that like the one he met on the cliff?

[00:12:24] Yeah, that dude who looks like he's out of shitty one piece.

[00:12:28] I think they have a teacher who leads them,

[00:12:31] but David, he's a little kooky, you know?

[00:12:34] And I think they get angry that they're being treated like kids,

[00:12:37] even though they're full blown Doushi.

[00:12:39] Wow, real brave with these choices.

[00:12:41] Yeah.

[00:12:41] My guess is that they're going to find out about Naruto's true parents.

[00:12:44] I mean, the main character, the vampires become more humanoid as they become more powerful

[00:12:48] because I think it'll also rip off D-Gray Man.

[00:12:50] And fuck who cares?

[00:12:51] This is Naruto.

[00:12:51] Just pick one trope like Takno Jutsu is important.

[00:12:54] I really don't.

[00:12:55] God, is it time where we could just read the Naruto plot summary

[00:12:58] instead of this for the next episode?

[00:13:00] Well, we'll see, because again, it wasn't so much the plot is like all the vibes were like

[00:13:04] It's got the zeitgeist of Naruto, you know?

[00:13:07] Yeah.

[00:13:07] Yeah.

[00:13:07] David, what's your power word?

[00:13:08] Suck, because it's about vampires and it sucks.

[00:13:11] Uh, mine is Naut because-

[00:13:13] I don't even know what that word means.

[00:13:14] Basically, it's like Naruto, Naut.

[00:13:17] It's just Naut.

[00:13:18] Well, that's what I call music volume six and it's just Naruto theme song.

[00:13:21] It's like how Boruto is Boruto Bolt.

[00:13:24] Yeah.

[00:13:25] Naruto is Naut.

[00:13:26] Yeah.

[00:13:27] I understand why his name is Boruto.

[00:13:28] I still think it's stupid.

[00:13:30] It's stupid.

[00:13:31] It's inherently stupid.

[00:13:32] I'm sorry.

[00:13:33] Anyway, Jordan, let's get into Q&A.

[00:13:34] Big thank you to everyone who drops their questions in the Shona Flop Discord.

[00:13:37] As a reminder, prioritization of questions are those who haven't asked a question before,

[00:13:41] question answered in a long time, or our patrons.

[00:13:44] Starting from Dude Rocks, what is your favorite part eight stand?

[00:13:46] Okay, now what would you change its name if you were forced to for localization?

[00:13:50] I think I like space trucking because it would be cool to just store all my stuff in like a deck of cards.

[00:13:56] And I think I would change it to cosmic wheeling.

[00:13:59] I really like doggy style because I think it's pretty cool how it's also I just I really like the character who has doggy style.

[00:14:06] Which one is doggy style?

[00:14:07] It's been a long time.

[00:14:08] Doggy style is the golf course guy, I think.

[00:14:10] Right.

[00:14:10] He's like best friend.

[00:14:11] Okay.

[00:14:11] The guy with the Ushanka.

[00:14:13] What's the new Ushanka?

[00:14:14] Ushanka is a Russian hat.

[00:14:15] It's the guy who turns like can peel himself.

[00:14:17] It's kind of like Jolene's stand a little bit.

[00:14:18] He's the guy who brings up the spin, I think.

[00:14:20] Okay.

[00:14:20] So I guess they call it puppy style.

[00:14:24] Puppy mode.

[00:14:25] Yeah.

[00:14:25] Actually Snoop style because it's a Snoop Dogg and that's like this stupid legal loop around.

[00:14:31] You're trying to get a legal loophole that gets you even more.

[00:14:35] Yeah, they call it Snoopy style because they can't say doggy style.

[00:14:39] You change it to like Snoop Dogg mode and it's like, well, now you're just.

[00:14:43] Classic pancake.

[00:14:44] Classic pancake is a classic.

[00:14:45] Anyway, from Weeboobs, Ash, pick three flop protagonist and tell me

[00:14:48] what they would like to order on their pizza.

[00:14:50] So Jordan, why don't we just for the sake of simplicity,

[00:14:52] let's do the three most recent protagonists that we've covered.

[00:14:54] Okay.

[00:14:55] Thank you.

[00:14:55] First up, we have the main character of Yui Camillo.

[00:14:57] What would she like on the pizza?

[00:14:59] Oh, so we're calling Yui Camillo the main character of Yui Camillo.

[00:15:02] Interesting.

[00:15:03] I think she gets half plain and half everything.

[00:15:06] No, it's half plain, half meat lovers.

[00:15:08] Or half plain, half pineapple because one is good and one is evil.

[00:15:12] Oh, millennials only know one joke.

[00:15:14] Is pineapple on pizza the only millennials joke?

[00:15:17] Yeah, I mean, it's definitely the I identify as an attack helicopter of millennial jokes.

[00:15:22] Really?

[00:15:22] I don't know.

[00:15:22] Okay.

[00:15:23] What the f- okay.

[00:15:25] So what would you think of Gaka from D and Amone?

[00:15:29] He would like a pepper and mushroom pizza.

[00:15:32] I think he likes spinach because he's a good boy.

[00:15:35] That's it.

[00:15:36] And Psych-House, which actually had a pizza on the cover.

[00:15:38] Oh yeah.

[00:15:38] What do you think that Katone would like?

[00:15:41] Something really weird.

[00:15:42] I bet she would like those Japanese weird pizzas where it's like a corn and mayonnaise with shrimp

[00:15:46] pizza or something.

[00:15:48] Yeah.

[00:15:48] That's what I'm gonna say.

[00:15:49] It's gonna have corn on it.

[00:15:51] For some reason, I was thinking ramen pizza because she's poor.

[00:15:55] I'm just imagining the main character,

[00:15:56] Jang-Shi and he eats like udon.

[00:15:58] He's-

[00:15:58] Oh, like Naruto.

[00:15:59] Yeah, he's just obsessed with eating udon every day.

[00:16:03] All right.

[00:16:03] So that's our answers.

[00:16:04] Next.

[00:16:05] Are there any manga you wish you could cover on the show that are disqualified exclusively

[00:16:08] because they got an anime?

[00:16:09] If so, which ones?

[00:16:10] And actually, Jordan, you and I can't answer this, but the legendary Maxi V can.

[00:16:13] Jordan, why don't you read off what Maxi V said?

[00:16:15] All right.

[00:16:16] Just one.

[00:16:17] Hatsukoi Limited by Mitsuki Kawashita.

[00:16:20] It only lasted 32 chapters with a middling reception, but it received an anime a year later.

[00:16:26] Presumably, it was negotiated when they thought that it would be a bigger deal.

[00:16:30] Genuinely great flop, but that anime keeps it technically off limits.

[00:16:34] This is all according to Maxi V.

[00:16:36] Yes.

[00:16:36] Oh, I was a little disappointed in a British accent, but I understand.

[00:16:39] And thank you for that question, Stackhorn.

[00:16:40] You don't want to hear me try British accent.

[00:16:43] Yeah, it's okay.

[00:16:43] From Redblade, what is a magic system from a non-manga anime story

[00:16:46] that you think would work very well in a manga or anime?

[00:16:50] I mean, bending from Avatar The Last Airman would be great.

[00:16:52] I see nothing controversial about me saying that.

[00:16:55] Oh, God.

[00:16:56] I'm trying to think about fucking magic.

[00:16:59] It's weird how Western media doesn't have a lot of defined power systems, does it?

[00:17:02] Yeah, it's almost like it's frequently annoying and drags things down.

[00:17:06] I don't know.

[00:17:07] Fucking, I read a series of books called Acts of Cain by Matthew Woodring Stover.

[00:17:13] And in that series, like the wizards who are called thaumaturges,

[00:17:17] the way that they cast magic is that they kind of force themselves to hallucinate things

[00:17:22] and then make it real through magic.

[00:17:24] And I thought that was cool.

[00:17:26] Great.

[00:17:26] Great.

[00:17:26] All right.

[00:17:27] From Mr. Open Arms Arc, if you could have any antagonist from a manga you've covered on

[00:17:31] an episode, who would it be?

[00:17:33] Antagonist.

[00:17:34] Yeah.

[00:17:34] So the bad guy.

[00:17:36] Who was the bad guy in Double Taisei?

[00:17:38] Was there one?

[00:17:39] Not really.

[00:17:40] Yeah.

[00:17:41] Yeah.

[00:17:41] Oh, I would have the crazy lady from Amalgam Distortion.

[00:17:44] We wouldn't survive the recording.

[00:17:46] Sarah Warren.

[00:17:47] But my God, would it be a great time?

[00:17:48] Yeah, Sarah Warren.

[00:17:50] We'll have her on.

[00:17:50] Yes.

[00:17:51] There you go.

[00:17:51] Our final question is from Lyra Lynn.

[00:17:53] Which manga that you've covered on Shonen Flop had a bad first impression episode,

[00:17:56] but as you read it more your opinion started getting better.

[00:17:58] I think actually Double Taisei we really grew on.

[00:18:01] Double Taisei.

[00:18:02] I think you like Candy Flurry just, but it might just been for the ending.

[00:18:05] Uh, Cool Frog and Dolphin.

[00:18:07] Oh, that had like a very bad first chapter.

[00:18:10] Hard Boiled Cobb and Dolphin is what I mean.

[00:18:12] Yeah, I know what you meant.

[00:18:13] Yes, David knows what I mean.

[00:18:15] I remember the last Sayuki being significantly better than we thought it would be from the first

[00:18:20] chapter.

[00:18:20] There was a brief moment where Yui Kamiyo seemed like it was going to be that.

[00:18:24] Yeah.

[00:18:24] I know Takamakahara got better.

[00:18:26] Yeah.

[00:18:26] And then it got worse.

[00:18:27] Oh, and St. Muscle where we didn't read the first chapter.

[00:18:30] Yeah.

[00:18:31] All right.

[00:18:32] Well, thank you everyone for submitting your questions.

[00:18:34] Jordan, I want to say thank you so much for all your hard work on the show.

[00:20:06] Yes, that's what I thought.

[00:20:08] She's just the best.

[00:20:09] Moving on down to the ravioli tier, where we actually showed ravioli the inside of our freezer

[00:20:59] Yeah, Crymaster 2 is like kind of the best one so far that we've watched. It has a moment where like

[00:21:07] the drummer from Morbid Angel, the singer of, or the drummer from Slayer, the singer of Morbid Angel,

[00:21:14] and a bunch of bees jam together as a collective metaphor for Johnny Cash.

[00:21:19] What the fuck are you talking about? Resident Warhammer nerds, Salvia, Scott Fishler, Sybil,

[00:21:23] Silly Rookie, Semping for Sempy, Ash, Stackhorn, Taper Clip, The Real Jory, True Tactician,

[00:21:27] Tucker Wadley, Wright, and ZZ Digital, and a big thank you for our bee children as well.

[00:21:31] You wanted a, you wanted an obscure reference, David.

[00:21:47] Keep on flopping floppers.

[00:21:49] Bye.
