[00:00:38] Jordan I just have to say the lack of my ability to actually vary how I say hi David

[00:00:49] Yeah it's called killing me and the reason David said that is because he keeps trying

[00:00:54] to do the part of Hittie baby one more time where she says my loneliness is killing me.

[00:01:02] Listener you may remember when we talked about the series recovering in the future we said

[00:01:07] from dust till dawn however we read that and the first chapter talks about snuff

[00:01:13] films and some really dark things, bad jokes that are pretty dark and it's just not

[00:01:21] fun to talk about that stuff on our goofy manga podcast so we decided to veto that one

[00:01:28] and we're doing another one about-

[00:01:30] Vampire lesbian.

[00:01:31] Lesbian vampire girls.

[00:01:33] I was gonna say vampire lesbians but we've only encountered one lesbian who's a vampire

[00:01:37] in this series so far.

[00:01:39] So far yes.

[00:01:40] And Jordan do you mind telling the audience a little bit about this manga?

[00:01:43] Yes this is killing me it's by Akiyama Enma.

[00:01:46] It ran from September 27, 2017 to May 26, 2018 for 11 chapters in one volume only one David.

[00:01:55] This is quite a U-19.

[00:01:57] Yeah Max would be actually told us it's 10 chapters in one volume and then there's

[00:02:01] one six page final chapter so it's very awkward where I guess if you buy the one

[00:02:06] volume it's not actually finished.

[00:02:08] Oh god but yeah let's get into the plot summary for this first chapter of killing me.

[00:02:14] Miyako loves her school classmate Saki but David she just tries to push her away.

[00:02:19] Oh.

[00:02:20] I don't know maybe it's because Saki's a vampire hunter and oh David Miyako is a vampire.

[00:02:26] What?

[00:02:27] Wow where have I seen this plot before?

[00:02:30] Oh my goodness.

[00:02:31] Where have you seen this plot?

[00:02:32] It's in Buffy all the time actually.

[00:02:35] There you go.

[00:02:36] There's like multiple instances in Buffy.

[00:02:38] But yeah Miyako just wants you know a little bit of her blood from time to

[00:02:41] time.

[00:02:42] A little bit of blood, a little teeny bit of blood.

[00:02:44] When the school day is done Saki and Miyako fight with Saki using her revolver and Miyako

[00:02:50] easily dodging the bullets before biting her neck and feeding on her.

[00:02:54] The next day Saki comes into class wearing a chain of garlic and a cross which repulses

[00:02:59] everyone including Miyako so whatever that was the point.

[00:03:03] Later however Saki sits alone on a bench eating lunch with her cross and garlic

[00:03:08] next to her thinking of ways to kill Miyako the fool she took them off to eat popcorn David.

[00:03:16] Justin Miyako appears and grabs her cross saying that she can't push her away with this

[00:03:20] even though it's shaking in her hand which is a great little detail.

[00:03:24] She tells Saki that she truly loves her before collapsing on her lap.

[00:03:28] In Saki Fiora's it's because Miyako held the cross that reminds me of many of my

[00:03:31] friends that legally can't enter churches.

[00:03:34] Oh.

[00:03:35] She takes out the revolver she brought to school of which is most American manga ever.

[00:03:39] God, this reminds me how Chainsaw Man had a character saying don't go to school tomorrow.

[00:03:43] Oh god yeah.

[00:03:45] I love Chainsaw Man.

[00:03:46] It's so good.

[00:03:47] Pointed at Miyako's head not caring if the bullet ends up going through her own leg

[00:03:51] can't bring herself to fire before Miyako wakes up and tosses the gun away.

[00:03:55] Miyako then glumps Saki as she resolves to one day kill the vampire.

[00:04:00] End of chapter 1.

[00:04:01] End chapter 1.

[00:04:03] Beginning of a beautiful romance.

[00:04:05] Oh yes.

[00:04:06] A bat romance.

[00:04:07] A bat mance.

[00:04:08] Have you seen that fan art of Twilight where they replace everyone with Batman?

[00:04:12] Ah I want your love and I want your revenge.

[00:04:14] Anyway um yeah first impressions David what'd you think?

[00:04:18] I thought this was fun.

[00:04:19] I always feel like Yuri manga or read just always seemed to be a fun time with very

[00:04:23] little drama.

[00:04:24] I don't know if it's because of what I've read or if it's a trope that Yuri

[00:04:27] manga is really just absolute cotton candy when it comes to LGBT stuff.

[00:04:32] Besides yeah my lesbian thing was it my lesbian experience of loneliness which is not really

[00:04:38] Yuri because it's mostly just about one woman's experiences.

[00:04:43] True.

[00:04:44] I feel like Yuri is a very specific genre but yeah Yuri is very sweet as opposed to Yali

[00:04:50] which is apparently very seedy and sometimes violet from Dusk Till Dawn was weird anyway.

[00:04:57] What's your first thought on this?

[00:05:00] This is very cute.

[00:05:02] It did feel a little bit more like a summary than a full chapter really where it was kind

[00:05:06] of just going beat by beat but at the same time it managed to like fit a lot of stuff

[00:05:11] in there.

[00:05:12] It didn't really waste my time and you know they you have to get that stuff out of

[00:05:16] the way to get the thing going you know what I mean?

[00:05:18] I agree.

[00:05:19] Also oh Japan you and your lack of school shooters.

[00:05:26] You could just casually have a character pull out a gun at school and it's like

[00:05:30] it's a cute little moment.

[00:05:33] Oh that's so sweet Japan.

[00:05:38] I liked the color page.

[00:05:40] It seemed like a really good use of digital coloring where it's like not very flat.

[00:05:44] There's a lot of techniques that weren't just like you could have emulated that with

[00:05:47] actual physical medium if you had wanted to you know.

[00:05:49] Yeah it really adds to the inoffensiveness where I think this is the right art style

[00:05:53] for it where you know that things aren't really gonna get that heavy and if they

[00:05:56] do this was not the right art style for it.

[00:05:59] Or maybe it's the perfect art style.

[00:06:37] So it's like even though it's a short chapter it really really feels like you're right

[00:06:40] about 10 pages.

[00:06:41] Yeah to be fair like this is much shorter than the first chapters that we usually

[00:06:45] cover this is like.

[00:06:47] I think it's like 25ish pages but it's but it's a very inefficient 25 pages.

[00:06:51] I don't know how inefficient it is like we've read I mean just compared to some

[00:06:55] of the manga that we've read in the past this kind of gets a lot out of the way.

[00:07:00] I agree with what you're saying where like he could probably fit in a couple more

[00:07:04] panels but like I don't know.

[00:07:06] I mean he probably needed to do that just to give some breathing room to stuff.

[00:07:15] This is for instance it seems like the kind of a vampire where you have to have your

[00:07:22] victim drink the vampire's own blood.

[00:07:26] Because otherwise Saki would have been turned into a vampire already.

[00:07:30] Every vampire series has their own special rules.

[00:07:33] Is it you drink the vampire's blood or does the vampire drink your blood in a specific

[00:07:37] way?

[00:07:38] Sometimes they sparkle in the sunlight.

[00:07:40] Oh yeah I mean she clearly doesn't have much of an issue with sunlight.

[00:10:03] I think it's just too inconvenient for the plot and it's just like you can only

[00:10:06] make that joke so many times before it just gets weird.

[00:10:07] I mean this series does only go 10 chapters though.

[00:10:10] Yeah I'm not trying to play the game about the fact that's 10 chapters you know.

[00:10:15] So Saki does not become a vampire.

[00:10:36] thinks that she kills Miyoko and feels bad about it but she doesn't actually kill

[00:10:40] me.

[00:12:48] have actually only been living in that island for about 700 years and it really changes

[00:12:52] a lot of the landscape of how colonizers interacted like for instance all the Maui people.

[00:12:59] Yes but it's very interesting that all the tribes in the indigenous country actually

[00:13:03] speak almost exactly the same language which made it way easier to kind of develop politically

[00:17:51] And then she like rants about how no one gave her like a follow up call to check in on her
